The 1500m is Hassan's third best event and she can be very competitive and even defeat Kipyegon (aka the 1500m goat) on a good day. That says enough really

Hassan ran 3:58 a month after training for and racing a marathon. if she trained exclusively for the 1500, there is no doubt she would beat Kipyegon at least 50% of the time. Hassan has more speed.
Kipyegon HAS NEVER RUN AS FAST AS HASSAN'S 3:51 IN A WORLD OR OLYMPIC FINAL.

Hassan at her best > Kipyegon
For the first half of her career the 1500 was Hassan's main event. She faced Kipyegon 3 times in WC and Olympics finals in 2015, 2016 and 2107 when Hassan didn't double back. Hassan managed only a bronze and 2 5ths while Kipyegon came away with 2 golds and a silver.
Hassan has had spectacular seasons and races but Faith has been far more consistent throughout her career. Since 2013 she has never finished lower than 2nd in a global championship. Kipyegon won her first Oly Gold at age 22 and Hassan at 28.
Who comes out on top in a GOAT conversation? Kipyegon just obliterated Hassan's mile record by 5 seconds. She also holds the 1500/5k records. Hassan has run some of the most incredible championships ever, the 2019 double and the 2021 triple being standouts. She also has by far the best range of any woman ever, having both run 1:56 and winning the deepest London Marathon in history in her debut.
I'm taking Hassan because she's like Kipchoge if he was better at track. 2 golds and a bronze at the same Olympics, and that WC double of 3:51/3:59 last 1500 in the 10k) is crazier to me than Kipyegon running 3:49.
As of today Hassans body of work is greater, but with both athletes at their peak physical shape Kipyegon is the better athlete.
It's hard though to imagine that after this year and the next though that Kipyegon won't achieve enough to change that and be not only the best we have ever seen, but also the greatest.

this. i want to see kipyegon front run 3:51 days after winning gold at 10k (by running a 3:59 final 1500, lol)

the Hassan that toed the line for Tokyo 5000k and closed in 57 secs in horrible conditions when no one was even near her to make her "have" to run that fast, mere hours after falling in 1500 and running 43 sec 300 and 60 sec 400, was arguably in 3:50 1500 shape and 14:05 5k shape AND was in good enough shape to win gold at 10k against the world record holder. Tsegay, who had run 14:13 that season, was completely annihilated in the 5000 final. Sifan was in insane shape and I'm not willing to concede that Faith being better at 1500 despite specializing in it and MAYBE faster at 5k is superior to that versuon of Sifan as an athlete
Hassan is definitely the greatest all around distance runner. She has won a major championship at every (Olympic) event 1500m - marathon.
That being said, Kipyegon is the GOAT of track. 3 WRs in 3 races, a world record set in a head to head, something that hasn't been seen in distance events for many years.

I also want to see Hassan win a 1500 Olympic Gold after running a 1.57.x final 800m with a 58 sec last lap
I want to see Hassan break the 1500, Mile and 5k world records in a 2 month span
Faith is a Better runner than Hassan Pound for Pound and, this will only get clearer as she moves up in distance.

You can't make that assumption until the others move on up
Gudaf just moved to the 10k, and one day to the marathon

This same year they met fresh in Monaco and Kipyegon dusted Hassan in the final 100m metres like she was a nobody in a fast pace where Kipyegon missed the then world record by a second. They then met again in the diamond league final both fresh and Kipyegon won in a tactical race. There was nothing Tokyo Hassan could do to beat Kipyegon when it mattered in the 1500m.

Hassan has stopped training by the time of the Zurich final and had slowed down a bit. And she was like a quarter of a second behind Faith

You want to be considered the greatest you cannot keep making excuses. when it has mattered Kipyegon has always beaten Hasan except for 2019. They faced each other in 3 times before Hassan began doubling in championship finals and Kipyegon always finished ahead of Hassan. There is no evidence that Hassan could beat Kipyegon in the 1500 in Tokyo if she wasn't doubling. At that point Kipyegon had a 3-1 finals record against her and the fastest time in the world where she dusted Hassan in the final 100m like she was a nobody. Kipyegon gives Hassan problems that no other athlete has given her when they are both on top form. Hassan cannot run away from Kipyegon and Kipyegon has always outkicked her when they are in a close race.

Finals head to head now 5 - 1 in favour of Kipyegon. Predicting it to be 6-1 by the time the 5000m is over if Sifan continues to sit at the back and spot her competition 5-6m at the bell like she did in the 10,000m and tonight. Sifan actually had a marginally faster last lap than Welteji but was half a second behind her at the bell and you can't give people like Gudaf and Diribe a free second or half second advantage at the bell.
Hassan is not on same level as Faith. Faith is just too good. WR in 3 events. Too quick with better form. Hassan ought to avoid the 1500, where she cannot win. Run only 5k/10k. She might win one of them.
