Since you're asking on Letsrun, I'll take "stay fit" to mean perpetually in 18:00 shape and ~never injured. A decently talented runner should be able to do that on 30 miles a week with 1 or 2 rest days. That should include 1 workout and some sprints -- you wouldn't squat 20 lb x 500 5 days a week to get strong, but hobby joggers think they'll be fit while jogging all their miles. Doesn't have to be anything crazy, something like hill sprints or repeat 400s work fine, but it's good to tire yourself out sometimes. 1 "long" day at 8-10 miles. Take 1 or 2 weeks off to do something else a few times a year.
