It was a frequent occurrence in past years, both before and after Olympics, like 2013 for top athletes to skip World's, whether that was a shadow ban with bribing and extortion going on at the very top levels of the IAAF (Lamine Diack) or internal tests coming back negative or whatever. There were consequently depleted fields in 2009, 2011, 2013. It's terrible for the sport to maintain a fan base between Olympics.
they ended their season right after world last year and skipped the indoor and outdoor season this year to focus on Worlds and now they are skipping on Worlds to focus on the Olympics. What’s next? What exudes will they come up with next for not racing? Skipping on the Olympics to focus on breaking the WR? How are people still a fan of these “athletes”? They never race! Are you just a fan of their illusion? A fan of their potential? I’ve honestly lost interest in following both of them. I hope they retire soon because they’re doing more damage than good to the sport and it’s fan base.
....
Not all but a lot of you posters are the biggest hypocrites. In my other post Athing losing American fan base. The majority of the posts were: they have right to do as they please and they not losing many fans.
Now I find a possible albeit not popular reason why they skipping Worlds and again some posters take the opposite viewpoint. It makes ABSOLUTELY no sense one week your a fan and the next week your against the two.
They have a right to do as they please, although I don't agree or like their decision as a fan of the sport. Now how much would our opinions matter if both double and win both events or win one and medal in the other (both with at least one WR) event at the Olympics?
I'd love to agree with what you write, but since you don't know the difference between your and you're, it's hard to know WTF you are trying to say.
SYDNEY McLAUGHLIN-LEV & ATHING MU: The real reason they're skipping Worlds
....
After the recent news that Sydney WILL be missing Worlds and Athing announced earlier she may skip Worlds it got me thinking. Both athletes have shown they are in great form and a threat for another title, maybe not a lock but certainly one of the favorites. They both have expressed:
1.) They want to attack 2 of the oldest world records in women's athletics.
2.) They are strongly considering doubling at the Olympics.
3.) Both tried new events that they are considering part of their double.
What better way to prepare:
1.) than have a shortened season in which you test yourself against competition and set huge personal best in your new event
2.) take time off and reset entire and have LONGER training for the doubles for a more lucrative double at Olympics.
3.) more training time by taking vacation and skipping Worlds and then prepare for possible WR's at Olympics.
As farfetched as it sounds it makes more sense than two world beaters just skipping Worlds.
.....
It sounds good and I hope you're correct. Go Sydney and Athing do your thing at the 5 rings.
I love how Syd and Athing have so many old guys getting their tighty whities in a bunch. Multiple, foaming-at-the-mouth threads. All a big circle jerk since for disgruntled 'fans' since Athing and Syd are off living their best lives in style.
I'm 58. I guess I'm old, although I haven't worn tighty whities in 40 years. I've never understood other guys fascination with the type of underwear other men wear. Weird. I've never once considered what underwear my friends wear.
T&F is on life support and has been for a long time. If they have legit reasons to stay away from Budapest, I get it. But it just feels dirty. Kersee.
And despite all this sh*t, I'm still the guy spending money to attend meets across the county, while you're probably complaining about spending a few dollars to stream meets on TV. Cheap a** bast*rd.
I have been fans of both athletes, but I'm starting to wonder. Kersee. And I do remember the 80s very well and TAC covering up for US athletes. Maybe things don't change. TAC=USATF.

It really is amazing how much time these losers like VIPAM spend on this. Athing is competing in Budapest. Give it a rest folks.

Just a thought both have been running since they were very young girls. Both been very successful as both have one gold medals. M,aybe just maybe , they're just not having fun?
Take drugs out of the equation. They both can still be tested without competing at Worlds by random testing. They already completed in meet(s) plus the USA Championships in which they most likely were tested.

Nice try, Bobby - treating us like dopes won’t hide the doping.

I stand by the above before I relate their nearly non existence completion schedule to doping.
Instead of scratching your head and trying to establish above board reasons why they are skipping worlds, how about shining a light on the obligation they need to acknowledge to the sport they profess to love and the fans that enable their vast monetary contracts.
The sport of athletics doesn’t need prima donnas who only race upon their terms and without any thought or obligation to the fans and the betterment of the sport. The sport needs individuals like Femke Bol who show up at every opportunity and radiate appreciation at the talent they have been given and the fans who have come to witness her running. Now Bol is an athlete you can hold up as an example to anyone of how to conduct yourself……….. Sydney and Athing, not so much……
I have been fans of both athletes, but I'm starting to wonder. Kersee. And I do remember the 80s very well and TAC covering up for US athletes. Maybe things don't change. TAC=USATF.
Anti-doping has always been a game of cat and mouse, and it seems that the cat has caught up in recent years, it's not hard to see why general suspicion is plentiful.
The timing of the unusual move by Kersee (and his general behavior which is why so many aren't giving McLaughlin the benefit of the doubt) is conspicuous, and USATFs shady history isn't all the far back in the past at all so...
Mainly though I just think this general exclusive and secreted approach to the sport is bad PR for the sport. And yeah I guess as athletes they don't necessarily have to fill that role, but also what are they getting paid to be marketable for then?
If so many of you suspect drugs and don't trust the governing bodies why the hell are you still following the sport? I don't see any of you accusing Fenke Bol or Karstom Walhome and I wonder why?
If they don't turn up at meets, how do they earn a living? And, of course, by being less visible, it should mean that it is harder for them to attract sponsorship deals. The whole thing reeks of something very dodgy.
That's 8t right there ant sponsorship should have it their contract: if you don't compete in your country trials and/or major championships than you lose a large portion of your endorsement
