Rim rock
So now that we’re midway through the season, here are the top Heartland Teams
Boys:
Stevens Point is the top team. And they have shown that they can be #1 at in the Heartland region even if their regular #2 guy Bode Erickson does not score.
Candidates for the second best team are Dowling Catholic, Wayzata, Minnetonka, and potentially Cedar Falls IA.
Girls:
Wayzata is the top team, just like last year.
Candidates for the second best team are Johnston IA and Olathe West KS (last year’s NXN qualifiers)
Clay Shively is #2 in the nation
Clay Shively, Sam Scott, and Aloysius Franzen are all top 10.
Last year 3 Heartland guys finished in the top 10 at NXN
Dowling puts 5 under 16
Hudson put 4 guys under 16:10 in the 5k
There are 50 teams in the region better than that.
Creighton Preparatory school wins in a tiebreaker at the Nebraska state meet.
Individual winner - Juan Gonzalez (junior) - 15:26.
The junior class is stacking up in this region.
Rapid City Stevens 3rd in the SD state meet in the post-Birnbaum era
state meet boys results
Dowling Catholic - 72
Cedar Falls - 84
Top 4 all appear to be 5-man teams
The junior class is shaping up to be very strong in the Heartland region.
Robert Mechura, Manny Putz, Bjorn Anderson, Sal Wirth, Will Weber, Sully Anez, Juan Gonzalez, Ethan Zuber, Jack Flori
A few stud sophomores too - Jaden Merrick, Sean Fries, Grady Lenn, Owen Hintz

SPASH is more like a 6-deep team right now. At sections they were only 5-deep because one of their top guys Ethan Olds didn’t race. He is listed in the state meet lineup.
Their 7th man Gunderson (Senior) got an injury after last year’s CC season (when he was on the cusp between JV and varsity), so he couldn’t run at all until the start of this season so he’s continuing to close the gap on their 6th man. He started as a midpack JV runner this summer.
No. If they lose any of their 1st three and score their 6th, they drop from 1st to about 8th in the Heartland.
Wichita Trinity won the KS state meet without W Ferguson, but there’s zero chance they’re going to NXN with this big of a gap behind their 4th
