Japan wasn't destroyed. Two medium sized cities were destroyed. Mainland Japan wasn't obliterated, London was rocked way worse than most of Japan aside from those two cities. Less than 1% of Japan's population lived in those areas. Kind of like how New Orleans went to crap after Katrina, it's just a small portion of the country that is out for a couple years. And Japan was a world power before the war, so it's not like it was a tiny country that had some bad things happen. A couple fission bombs isn't enough to take completely destroy the infrastructure of a global power. The newer nuclear weapons (100+ times stronger than what hit Japan) on the other hand would be more of a factor.
Japan as a monarchy was. The Emperor became a complete figurehead for the first time ever. Even in the past, when they were sometimes controlled by shoguns, the throne itself was still the foundation of power. Now it's nothing.
They allowed this because when a feudal lord is defeated, they become a vassal or get destroyed. If they choose destruction, down goes their house, but the common people continue with a new overlord. Pretty simple and easy to deal with when you're used to it. The Emperor may have been spared execution but certainly became a vassal.
While the top 50 cities in Japan (not just Nagasaki and Hiroshima) had been raised, the people that remained retained their culture and education/ skill to rebuild.
Haitian slave descendant had neither.
Trust me, I’ve employed hundreds of people (zero Haitians) and nearly all have a much lower IQ than they think. More importantly, they are low on ambition and industriousness.
High IQ is not require to rebuild and have a functioning society.
Just wondering as I watched Oppenheimer today. Both are island nations so why is Japan a far better place?
The US has given an inflation adjusted 20 billion + to Japan to help it recover.
I suppose it the US have Haiti 20 billion today they would be better off.
The US and the international community have given Haiti more than 20 billion in the past 30 years. Haiti received more aid money per capita than any other country even before the earthquake.
Organizations I work with continue to work in Haiti and we care a lot about getting them out of poverty, but long-term poverty is complex and solutions require money but it hasn't worked to just throw money at it.
I know someone who did employ(a few) Haitians. There's a lot of anecdotal stuff, but I can't present individual experiences as evidence. It certainly wouldn't sound good and some people would flag it as racist observations.

Most ended up in the coffers of the Clinton Foundation.

In less than a year, Haiti has been rocked by a presidential assassination, rotating leaders and prime ministers, a devastating earthquake and hurricane and ...

You didn’t understand my comment. Read it again. I’m not saying Haitians lack IQ. And the only reason I’ve never hire a Haitian is because one has never applied.

The OP knows the two are not comparable and knows what they are doing. This is what this site has become and in my opinion is indicative of the American underbelly which is not not good for its future or any future at all.
