Mary Moraa just ran 50:38 national record two weeks ago at an altitude of 5500 feets .Mu has a sub 50 pb .Keely 's speed is impressive but not the best in the pool
I mean it's a good time for her - not incredible, but really solid.
What is interesting is the large difference in philosophy between her and Mu heading into Budapest. Mu has raced once over 800m this outdoor season and then of course focussed on the 1500m at USATFs which was an epic success for her. By contrast KH has raced 2 DL's and the UK champs over 800m (where she ran 1.58.26 in the final so that wasn't just training) and 2 championships (UK and Euro U23's) over 400m. She's toed the line 8 times outdoors (including heats) vs 3 for Mu (including heats) - that's a substantial physical but also mental/emotional difference.
What's even more interesting to me is that if you had told me to guess who had been focussing on the 400 heading into Budapest I would have gone with Mu - 1) because of her background and 2) because of Kersee who is obviously more well known as a sprint coach. But I have to say I am incredibly impressed with the direction and plan of Kersee to focus over-distance and not over-race. Not saying that Keely is over-raced but the workload has been substantially more and I would honestly rather be on the side of under than over when it came to racing as of today - especially with the world champs relatively late this year (18-27 August).
I would be feeling pretty good if I was Mu right now, congrats to Keely on her PR but let's see how/if she maintains the form.
It is evident that most 800m runners would need to be in sub-51 400m condition to race sub-1:53 800m. Since K H will not race sub-1:53 800m this summer and most likely ever, her 400m time is no big deal. Did you read my first post? Even though correlation: 400m to 800m is stronger than 1500m to 800m, 400m to 800m correlation is not strong. My last post on this thread. Go ahead and continue to spam this site with K H's greatness.
WR is 1:53.2 by a woman who was sub 48 (1983). Very much ch faster than 51.
The only other sub 1:54 woman is a 1:53.4 with PB of 50.9 and 3:59.4 (1980)
Pamela Jelimo, who is 3rd all time, just below the people your mentioned with a PB of 1:54.01, only ran 52.14 and 52.78, and the 52.78 was in her prime. I think the huge variation is correct. Here is the ful list of people sub 1:55.5 who have a 400 PB in world athletics

Corrected for altitude: 50.78. Not bad but not Mu level.
