Until relatively recently there was no “this post has been removed” memo so you wouldn’t have been aware of all the deleted posts, so that’s part of it. Much of it has to do with the epic hike in reported posts. Like someone else surmised, I think a lot of reported posts are deleted without much thought even though they don’t really violate LetsRun guidelines. That also partially explains the apparent randomness and inconsistency: it’s not “random,” one post was reported while another was not. There are some people who definitely go report-happy and will go through a thread and report two dozen posts they disagree with as “personal attacks of another person or forum poster,” which is so annoying. Most of the time when I see like “49 reported posts require review” I ignore it because it sounds like a pain in the ass.
I wouldn’t say apart from the Wiley related posts their have been more deletions or reported posts .
With posts related to her there has been a concerted effort to get them removed by some automatic tools we use behind the scenes. That causes more posts to be reported and some posts to be deleted that shouldn’t have been. We have restored many of these posts.
People are allowed to discuss the Huntington scandal, at the same time not every thread about women’s 1500 running or even Katelyn Tuohy needs to turn into a discussion of Huntington . So it’s a balancing act.
But the situation this weekend with Wiley running so well, the auto rules being taken advantage of, and then people complaining about their posts disappearing then just creates a cycle where they post the same thing again etc .
so sorry for any issues this week. we seem to have a bette handle on it now.
Not running related, but I made a thread asking about people's opinions on RFK Jr, making no mention of any vaccines etc., and it got deleted within an hour.
Would really like to know why that thread was deleted, when I wasn't trying to create anything except serious political dialogue, which is accepted and done all the time on LRC. He's a legitimate candidate for president and I think it's fair to talk about him on LRC
Another, older thread on this same problem. The moderators deleted it, but Rojo put it back up. The moderators responded by deleting as many individual posts as they could get away with. Nowadays they usually leave it alone.
I can only speak for myself…so I will. The moderation on this site is squeezing out the fun, humor, and silliness that made letsrun a great place to visit after a hard day. The forum is much more conventional and norma...

Respectfully, I don’t think you have a handle on it. The impression the rest of us get is that the moderators are in control.
If you have a tool that automatically deletes certain threads, why would you not realize that others would take advantage of that?

“The rest of us” - you don’t speak for everyone. I don’t see the moderation as problematic; I just see a group of vocal crybabies. So don’t lump me in with your stance.
