Just a reminder that Craig Engels ran 1:44.6. To think Jakob couldn't run at least 1:44 with a good race might be underestimating him. He could probably push sub-3:27 this season, hard to imagine someone not being able to run under 1:45 with that speed.
Two ways to figure out if J Ingebrigtsen has improved his 800m personal best:
1) Direct evidence. Is there an 800m TT or an 800m race? There are two events and ONLY TWO EVENTS that strongly correlate with 800m: 600m & 1000m. Anyone discussing events longer than 1000m, are not analyzing seriously.
2) Analysis: A 400m race will not tell us much. Most sub-1:48 800m guys are capable of sub-50 400m but how much faster, hard to say. A sub-3:28 1500m guy could be anywhere from a 1:49.xx guy to a 1:40.xx guy. Where in that range, who knows (unless we see #1 for direct evidence)?
