About the team - like duh. She may have been "all that" back in high school but college has runners who are much faster. She can't just away from them. If she runs too fast they will catch up and THEY WILL pass her. We have seen that.

So, you're point is that she should only run one event instead of two...because of her NC State team? If we're talking NCAAs, then running both events gives her a chance at maximum points. If we're talking about USATF, then the team is irrelevant.
Athletes enter 2 events all the time; it is called hedging your bets. Hope to see her the 5000, that's where she has the best chance. I suspect her days of running the mile are over post NCAA, she simply isn't built for it. The strength she showed in cross country suggest to me as a pro she will have more success in long distances. Although I don't see her making the team in the 5000, but she is good enough to have to have a shot.
She is part of a college team. Professionals are earning a living. They were team players when in college. Not Tuohy though. The situation is becoming toxic. Expect more transfers.
It's funny, because you must be describing another Tuohy. She constantly talks about the team as an entity and how important the national team championships were over her own accolades. She stands at the line and cheers on her teammates as they finish and always compliments the team effort. I suppose the consecutive team championships in X-Ctry were just flukes that she didn't care about, based on your view of her.

Her entry in both had to be for publicity alone. Attempting this double which she couldn’t even handle at NCAAs at an even higher level of competition would be reaching Aaron Sahlman levels of arrogance and stupidity
Has there ever been a more selfish runner than this lady? Always about her.
Anyone who watched the XC championships knows this is demonstrably false. If she were all for herself, she would have sat on Valby (who went out fast but not unreasonable) and then took her towards the end. Instead, she let her get a big lead and risked losing the individual title for one reason — to keep the pack together and optimize her team’s chances of winning a team title.

I bet she will still be running the 1500m, just like Cranny, Morgan, Schweizer, Henes... and many others. Her championships events post collegiately will probably be 3k and up.
No she has not shown the 100m closing speed of a Sinclaire Johnson or Nikki Hiltz. But, she is still a talented miler nonetheless.

Agreed. I still think Tuohy was in 4:06.xx shape (at worst) at Wake and Austin both and that Henes and her charge got the tactics and race execution wrong on both occasions. Tuohy’s Budapest odds are long in either 1500/5000, but a relatively quick time (4:05.xx or below) and/or top 6 1500m finish at USAs will at least confirm that coach and athlete have made corrections and are moving in the right direction.
Assuming Andrews opts for the 5 only, McGee, Hiltz & MacLean are my picks to make the 1500 team, with Morgan as the (surprise?) alternate.

Let me clarify - I am referring to her running the 1500m as a pro in general, not at this meet.

Morgan was sooo good during indoors. Did she get injured? Her recent races haven't been quite as sharp. I am rooting for her to do well, whichever event.
Picking the 1500m team is hard, so stacked this year. But I think it will be the three you mentioned and Johnson in top contention.

Johnson is class, for sure. I suppose I give Morgan's 2023 indoor performance more weight than most, as well as remembering that Taylor and Orton got it right at Tallahassee; maybe they can do it again.
Re Tuohy, she may ditch the 1500 in Eugene, but I see the 5000 as more of a 2024 project for her. I think she can make short-term corrections to improve her 1500 performance, whereas becoming a credible contender for Team USA’s 5000m squad should require at least another year of hard graft--and maybe a summer of experimenting with double thresholds?
Katelyn Tuohy faces a big challenge today as she has to race to 1500 m as well as the 5K. Will she be able to do it and take down Sophia O’Sullivan in the 15...

Wow, I've been pretty much alone in this opinion, but I'm 100% in line.
I never worried even about Wake, as it was clear they were testing some things. In the 1500 she was using the rabbit to test out a blistering first 800 and hanging on (if you want to run 3:59 you have to try that pace), then the 5000 was a test of how she'd feel on tired legs in a double. Meanwhile the meet banged out 2 NCAA qs.
In hindsight wake probably confirmed already their 1500/5000 NCAA double plans.
I'm under no delusions of Budapest, but I'd like to see her bounce back with a good usatf performance.
Interesting. So Tuohy's tactics were bad while Valby's were good but Tuohy won and Valby lost? What would hsvebeen the outcome had Tuohy run for the win and Valby not?
Question- why were the NCAA track finals held in Austin again- where it's over 95 F in June- even at night? Very dangerous heat and humidity. Why not Oregon? Tuohy looked very hot and tired coming down the final 200.

They try to move it around for fairness and they can only offer it to schools/cities that submit a bid.

I may have to revise my picks after Stumptown--Johnson looked terrific, 4 flat seemingly without shifting into her top-end gear in the final 200. If Wiley keeps rolling as well, even a 2-3 sec PB from Morgan might not be good enough.
Tuohy doesn't have the 4:05 standard. It states "not qualified" on the USATF status of entries page. Am I missing something here? Why is there even a discussion if she's running the 1,500 or not when she's not qualified for it.

You don't have to be qualified to run at USA's. If you have a time that meets the qualification standard, then you are automatically in. Then USATF fills out the rest of the field with people who haven't yet met the qualification standard.
