Who is Jon Obst? Did anyone figure out who the fastest marathoner out of the brevard area is? Is it Norm Blair?
What did Rick Fuller run? Didn't Steve Spence train there some? Steve Taylor? I knew Brantley trained there?
Didn't the college have some good marathoners in the early 80's? Wasn't the school record at Brevard 2:20-2:21?

Guess that loses out to the two or three sub 2:20s (2:16 being the fastest of them) at Central Oregon Community College, or Cock(sic) on the Rock as it is more affectionately known as.
blair never lived in brevard...fuller 2:23:47 or so, chicago '97 or so, spence and taylor trained there before the '96 trials in charlotte, hard working boys peveto ran 2:24 back in the day at Brevard Junior College
Do you guys know or remeber when Keith Brantly was the Head Cross Country Coach at Florida Atlantic University. He was ready to pull his hair out and kill himself,ha,ha.
I dont know what yall are talking about but the marathon record here at brevard college is 2:26. I have just seen the school records. All of the records that they have was when the school was juco except for the 1500, mile, indoor 3000, and outdoor 5k. Those records came from a damn f@#king forgeiner. OBST SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long did that last and why was he ready to go postal?
It must of been in the mid 1990's.I think he was the Coach for a season or two at most.He was just having a hard time relating to the teams mentality & work ethic etc.
One of the hardest and probably not the smartest thing to do is coach a mid level team while your training and racing at a high level.
But then again I could be full a shit,ha,ha
Don't be playa hatin' on Alexis!
What are you talking about? This was a little before his time, two or three coaches ago.I mean this was before they hired Bob Beamon,ha,ha...
Alexis has the school record in the 5k, 3k and 1500 right?
He didn't break the mile (4:00) did he? Trivia question, who has the mile record at Brevard and what is special about that athlete. (Hint: He was the first ______ to break _____?)
Alphonse Swai (SP?) still has the 10k right?
Reggie McAfee...
Greatest runner ever from Brevard.
When he set the 4:00 juco and school record, this was during racism and racing in the south. At the meet, he finished in a kick with a runner from Nova, the Nova runner ran 3:57 and outleaned Reggie, Reggie was given credit for 4:00.00
Racism at it's finest.
The next year, while running at Carolina and training with Tony Waldrop, he became the first african american sub 4 minute miler and ran 3:56.
For you Pre geeks, if you read the book, the photos of Pre running NCAA cross one year, Reggie is the arthur ashe looking cat in the UNC uniform on his shoulder.
Not a marathoner though, as this thread asks
Don't know about this ancient history on the marathon, but "Brain" did easily beat two of Brevard's finest a few weeks ago at 5K:

Brantly was affiliated somehow with FAU as of 2002, unless he was as full of shit as many who are recruited from the outside to run for corporate teams.

Here are some Pr's of people that called Brevard a trianing home at some time. Can anyone add and/or update this list?
What was Peveto's PR? Did John Erickson run a marathon one time?
Bodnar had to have run faster than 2:22 because he ran in the 2000 Trials. 2:21 at Pittsburgh in his debut, maybe?
As for Brantly, maybe he left FAU because he didn't want to get shot by the campus police.

I don't know that he ever actually called Brevard home, but Steve Taylor did some training in Brevard, and he ran 2:13.
What about Howard Nippert then? Anyone know his PR? He used to train with Steve Taylor all the time.
2:19 for Nippert.
To add to the list. Not sure they all called it home, but they all trained there for several months at a time:
Steve Spence 2:12 1992 Olympian/Bronze 1991 WC
Keith Brantly 2:12 1996 Olympian
Steve Taylor 2:13 1992 Oly Trials 6th/1991 WC team
Jeff Campbell 2:16
Howard Nippert 2:19 (now the top ultra runner in USA)
