Seeing this really makes me look back on Leo Young's highschool outdoor season with a sense of wasted potential. So far in the 1500 hes run 3:40, 42, 39, 39, 39, (and maybe a fourth 3:39 I cant even remember) along with 2 random 800s. Did he really need to forgo his highschool eligibility for that? Birbuam has ran faster than Leo over 1500 and 800 without forgoing any highschool eligibility. Couldn't have Leo stayed in the highschool level at least until Arcadia?? Couldn't he have entered a mile? Or a 2-mile, or a 5k or 10k? It just doesn't make sense.
Even Lex, as valiant as his comeback season from 35th at NXN to 13:34 5k has been, could've at least tried something other than 5ks and 1500s this whole season. Why not a 10k? An 800? A 2-mile?
I guess they feel that they've already proven themselves enough over previous years, or maybe they just have a sense of maturity (passivity?) that makes them not feel the need to prove themselves superior over their highschool peers. Either way, if I were as insanely fast as they are its certainly not the route I would've chosen.
