Also note: Jakob never mentions any other athlete by name in his interviews. It's always "him" or "they." Any time an interviewer names a competitor, Jakob always ignores it and says stuff like "there's always people coming up or performing well." He seems to view races as him versus the field rather than any individual.
I recall a long-ago interview of, I believe, Track & Field News with Said Aouita. He was asked about his competitors individually and answered "He is a great athlete" and said that of several of them. Yet he continued, saying, - and I'm paraphrasing here - "When I see them, I want to get inside their heads, to blow them up, to massacre them." Now I do recall having heard that early in his career Aouita spoke Arabic and French, but not English yet, and that his agent took some liberties in translating.
Jakob is the best 1500/5k runner in the world. He is the Olympic and world champ. He beat everyone by almost a second yesterday in the 1500 which is insane. He has a right to be confident. It’s only cockiness if he can’t back it up. And he can.
Sorry, but to me "almost a second" is not an insanely big margin. I think it barely qualifies as "comfortable" and even less so as "dominant." And I've watched all the episodes of Team Ingebrigtsen and admire the family not in every way but in many ways.
There was a decently bigger difference between him an 2 place than between 2 place and 8th place. Pretty dominant atleast even if 94 hundreds of a second ain't much.
He definitely doesn’t seem to be a fan of El G. In the opening part of the video when the reporter asks him about the tweet of congratulations El G sent him he did a huge pause and then simply said “I think it’s cool people follow along”
Well of course, why should he thank El EPO when we all know that Jakob is the likely the first clean man under 3:28 in history, and that the glory of it has been diminished because of cheats in that era? Would you expect Nick Willis to say thank you to Kiprop or Ramzi if they tweeted him congratulations?
It's a shame that Wightman's injury troubles have lingered into the outdoor season. Would've loved to see him humble Jakob again in Budapest, but I doubt he'll have enough time to get back into that kind of shape.
I still think Jakob is beatable in a championship 1500 without rabbits, but someone will have to bait him into making a tactical mistake, which will be tough. On the other hand, I don't see any way he loses the 5000 at this point.
two guys just ran 12:41 with a 2:24 last k and 55 last lap. he is beatable.
I would like to believe this, but I think Jakob is in close to 12:30 shape based on his two mile, and neither of those guys can outkick him either
I always liked the Morceli quote (which I only recently discovered was a Nike ad, so probably not actually a real quote):
"When I race, my mind is full of doubts. Who will come in second? Who will come in third?"
Jakob seems to embody that attitude. He's very confident, but never seems overtly disrespectful to his competitors. I generally prefer humility in my heroes, but I don't find Jakob's attitude to be problematic.

If the gap to third and beyond were larger, than he would have been more dominant, contrary to what you are relating.

Coevett do you think Jakob being a WHITE man has any bearing on you believing he is clean? Do you think whites are more talented than non-whites? Why cannot a non-white run as fast as a white if they are both clean? Please explain.

We don't know this, nobody here knows it.
What does it tell us about you, when in many of your posts you are lying (there are countless examples)?

You’re talking to the guy who claimed no Kenyan has broken 3:35 clean. He also believes Coe and Cram could have run 3:27 in the 80s.

I agree with this. It's possible a 1500 final evolves with not as much sting taken out of the stalkers. Jakob has a small edge but doesn't realize it's not nearly as decisive as in the pacer events. Given that scenario someone like Wightman or Nuguse could run him down, although it's anything but favoritism.
Jakob is learning as he goes along. Farah was the master of knowing exactly how much of a gap he needed and when he needed to accelerate, given the particulars of the race. Jakob is just starting to apply those variables, although as novice he got it right in the Olympic final when it mattered most.
I can't see him losing the 5000. There is simply too much time for him to gauge matters and apply superiority. When you are 1% better than everyone else that 1% attaches to every lap and dictates the outcome. The time trial events with all the touted names are nice filler trivia. Suckers accommodated.
The best way to defeat Jakob in a 1500 global final is for someone to sacrifice themselves, intentionally or otherwise. Perhaps team tactics. Allow Jakob to settle into his comfortable spot for a long time then loop around him and accelerate to clear advantage. Just after 800 would be ideal but anywhere in that range. Jakob would have to think instead of relax. The mental stress alone can sap critical reserve. Even if he made the correct decision he might get it wrong for 5 or 10 steps, just enough to be compromised late.
