That’s my fault, I start getting irrational when I attempt to give the Idaho girls some love and attention with a question in this thread and the chat just keeps rolling about Boys NXR stuff. This is the Idaho XC Chat, let’s get both genders rolling on conversation and hype up what might happen in The Potato State.
Will Ruby Ihmels from Timberline win XC State this year as a 9th grader? If so, does she lead Timberline in an upset over Boise?
I have a hard time seeing how Ruby Ihmels makes Timberline good enough to beat Boise. Boise has 3 girls with faster lifetime PRs at 1600m, a girl at 5:10 and a girl at 5:19 that was 11th at state cross last year. Timberline returns a 5:24 and 11:34 girl as their number 2 and 5:29 and 11:56 as their number 3. Boise could put 7 in front of their 3. If Boise was going to lose in the last 4 years at state (including this year), this last season was the year it was going to happen with Rocky.
Does Ruby win it? Maybe. But she also has the 7th fastest 1600m time from last year in 5A and there are lots of other girls with the chops to beat her. She ran basically what Allie Bruce ran on the Boise City Meet course as an 8th grader, so she may be a low 18’s girl like Allie was her freshman year. I don’t think that wins it though.
With Annastasia Peters graduated the girls 5A individual title feels very up for grabs. I think Ruby Ihmels genetics might give her the nod over quite a few girls that seem stagnant in the mid to high 18s on a challenging course (Lewiston for State last year was a smoke show, we all know that).

Allie Bruce was 11th at NXR and 5th at Champs West. She’s the person to beat all season. Besides, if the Ihmels genetics were so amazing, one would think that Wil would be faster than the 6th best sophomore in the state in the 3200 (and slower than 5 junior guys were their sophomore years), faster than 24th at the district meet in the 1600 and 15th at state in the 3200.
That’s not saying that Wil and Ruby aren’t gifted. I don’t see them having such amazing genetics that it’s a trump card over how genetically gifted other athletes around them are. Allie Bruce is very genetically gifted, is savvy, race tested, and had a good track season. I don’t think that there’s anything to indicate that she isn’t the overwhelming favorite at this point.
Who is the new Centennial coach- their name is Kelly Hall? Anyone know anything about them? What happened with the coach that was there previously? Seems weird to switch coaches when the team was in the position it was.
CDA boys team will be good next year / only have TWO seniors in their top 7. They will really be a team to watch for the years to come

Idaho boys are popping off on training this summer.
Noe Kemper has hit a 50 mile week already and looks like he's shooting for 60-65 this week. I'm assuming Kaden Helder will hit that as well.
Jack Sheesley hit a 80+ mile week but looks to be part of some foothills trails challenge.
Andrew Dodds is at almost 47 through today (seriously, the Boise guys are crushing training).
Landon Heemeyer looks like he could hit 50 this week (guessing Cody Lucas will also).
Andrew Ringert should hit 50 this week.
Lachlan May will hit 50 (assuming the Cervi-Skinner brothers will as well).
I'm guessing all of these guys will get to 60-65 this summer. 5A is going to be nuts.
Also projected to finish 2nd in the region at NXR. Preston and Rocky are projected in 5th and 6th behind Lincoln and Central Kitsap, although Preston and Central Kitsap have the same projected score.
First time 4 ID teams are ranked in the top 7-8 in the region?
It is dating back to 2016. Last year's had 3 in the top 10, but doesn't account for Rocky getting Hunter Hill via transfer. I only see one Idaho team as being ranked in the top 25 of TullyRunners prior to this year. There's a legit argument that Centennial deserves to be in there as well on merit of their track results, but TR doesn't factor that into their XC rankings.
How many Idaho boys will be top 20 at NXR this fall?
I think the list of possible guys are Heemeyer, Athay, Ringert, Cervi-Skinner, Kemper, Helder, Lucas, May, Johnston, Goss, and Stockett. Am I missing anyone?

Then you have guys like Bryson Blaser, Nate Stadtlander, Charlie Goss, Jacob King, Zach Cervi-Skinner, Chase McComber, Wil Ihmels, Carter Burdick, and Benjamin Jensen. We are seriously spoiled with this group of runners. There's going to be some awesome races this fall.

I’d say the over under is probably 4.5
Top 20 is a legit run at NXR. Heemeyer and a healthy Athay are most likely, followed by Ringert and Cervi Skinner.
The next group would need a really good performance at NXR to crack Top 20 (Boise duo, Lucas, May, Johnston, Blaser, Stadtlander, Stockett, etc.)
