Who gets the military in a national divorce? You think that's just going to be neatly resolved? That we'll calmly divy up the nukes? What about natural resources, which drive the entire economy? You think those will be peacefully rationed?
A "national divorce" is just euphamism for chaos, bloodshed, and the end of civil order. It would set the economy back 100 years and ensure that we'd all speaking Chinese in 50 years.

If people do not have representation in the government they will not want to be a part of that government. That's what the Revolution was about. That's what the Civil War was about. Pretending it could never happen again is absurd.
One could make a pretty good argument that the corporations and billionaires’ writ large actually do own and run the country. As George Carlin famously said, the politicians are put there to give you the illusion of choice. You have no choice. If you believe this, then if and only if our owners decide it is more profitable to divorce then we will divorce. So relax, be that dude that abides, man.
Sure things were very ugly there in Bosnia for a while. But haven’t they pretty much found peace now? Probably handled better than the partition of India. That thing happened in 1947 and those two sides are still fighting over Kashmir today. Maybe DeSantis or Newsome have that Milosevic in them. But if things go that way take out that guy quickly and move on. Since you referenced Waco, the logic of the federal government will just start massacring women and children isn’t a good reason for red states to stay. If my kid is in a bad marriage and their spouse says you can’t leave or I’ll beat you to death. I’m not advising them to stay in that marriage.

Some other people in this thread have made some good points, but I would like to point out that letsrun's page (or even twitter/facebook/reddit/4chan, w/e) are not the real world! Heck, only 62% of voting age persons voted in 2020. A lot of people do not care.
While I definitely do not think we are headed for a national split, I wonder if- to play devil's advocate- that low voter turnout is indicative of total distrust and split from our government.
In 100% clarity, I chose not to vote as I could not consciously support either candidate. Many people my age (24M) are sick of having a douche and a turd sandwich as our only two options- South Park nailed that episode.
I did vote in local/state elections, but the federal election is a sham, and people are maybe starting to see that. On one hand, low turnout means only charged up, M@Ga/SJWs get their way. It also may mean that there are indeed undercurrents of dissent and change stirring. Unsure which I prefer.
When reading the threads lately, I feel more certain than ever that the US is going down a path that will inevitably end in a break up. Do you all feel similarly? If so, how should the break-up be done? Is it possible that it can be done "amicably" or will it necessarily be a fight until one side succumbs (like most conflicts)? What do you think the timeline will likely be for various benchmarks of dissolution? Other than moving in advance to areas that are more in line with your political leanings, are there any others ways one should consider preparing?

The parties don't agree on anything at this point. Common ground has never been this hard to find and it's the "lwnjs" which have hijacked half of the political system.

Why do we have to divide into two contiguous countries? Why not divide up into six or seven like Yugoslavia did? New England, West Coast, Great Lakes, Red Mexico (Colorado and New Mexico), South, Texas, Plains States, Appalachia, Utaraho(Idaho, Utah, Arizona). As far as I know there weren’t any real problems when Yugoslavia did this. If we learn anything from our wars of the past three decades when we divide it won’t matter who has the food or who has the economy. The real question is who has the oil?
Great idea! And we can go through a decade of wars and ethnic cleansing just like Yugoslavia did until it's all sorted out. We'll have reds getting rid of blues and blues getting rid of reds in each respective region.

All the corruption and lies are public, but the populous and leadership seem to be too weak or divided to do anything about it. Conservatives...have been polishing their guns for centuries and they seem to be convinced that it's been serving them well. "Silly French with their revolutions..." The ideological centrist can be 75% of the populous, but it will be divided enough over the 2 only parties (name 3 other countries run in such fauxmocracy?) to prevent unity in the United Stated. This conservative/centrist "extreme right" is villified because right sounds bad nowadays, but really they seem pretty low action. When was the last organized effort to beat up gays or people of color, for the sweet hate of it? These people may exist, but they are lonely and far from an active member of the Republicans. The Reps started out as the anti-slavery party anyway, with the first black senators and all. They're pretty bad at reminding voters of that, though. In most dividing social event such as the recent epidemic (no, it wasn't a pand), some individuals were slightly level headed, but they didn't make a real effort to be heard. At the detriment of national health and personal freedoms. Still the US is one of VERY few countries you can travel to without a nice set of arm shots. Except when you walk across the South border, then you're a deity. Not to the Reps per say, but they only complain verbally, softly.
Liberals themselves seem to be quite into restricting liberties of the masses. Ironic? Silencing voices that would be perfectly fine 10 years ago. Banning free speech. And making norms from something really new. Drag queens not only need to exist, they need to perform at maximum gore in front of elementary school (and younger) pupils. You seem them usually in the crowd with only female teachers and parents. Also, BLM is the law and they have been very outspoken anti fatherfood. Can't have fathers get involved in black youth's upbringing, because reasons. White males are all that's evil in the world, except when they are in a ped0 crime family and sending silly amounts to extreme nationalists far far away, and funding preteen gender fixes, all kids that can be recruited. Kids can not decide on their school without their parents, and be a decade away from their first legal sip of Bud Light but they can "decide" on a gender swap. On can walk the woke path, but any misunderstood word will END you as a person, nothing will ever suffice, they will always demand more. Kneeling won't do. Kissing feet wond't do. paying reparation to blacks (eff Natives, apparently?) won't do, selling your kids' happiness for gender swaps won't do. And you won't be told what will be the norm to adhere to tomorrow. A lot of the Democrat noise seems to come from a small group that doesn't care about truth or consistency, only about being heard and presenting some sort of moral high ground, at least for the day. Tomorrow that won't be important anymore, because progress. I see top politicians leaving the Dem camp because they can no longer identify with the activist that set the narrative. Several have switched over to the Rep side. Not because they want to pray to Trump, but because the ideologies are a lot less grim than they're made out to be in the media. If you're not a Liberal, you're supposed to the next H!tler now. While the actual next H!tler is sent hundreds of billions, because war is good.
A lot of the division can appear to be by design. Do the two parties want this? Well the two party system has been serving them really well. Always great bribes to go around. The way the US does "campaign funding" is considered treason in about 200+ countries in the world. By far most. And it's hard to find an actual ideologist that doesn't take corporate money. The recent stronger polarisation seems to greatly help in making the pupupous ignor the sell out to China and the losing of all wars self started abroad, despite the trillions invested in "national defense".
Billionaires are a bit too powerful a voice and influence. Most are supporting the establishment and Democrats and Elon Musk was recently sent to the conservative side, his work on the liberal side was done. Digital banking, electric cars, chip implants and taking jobs with robots. Yeah, he did really well there. Now pretend to be a free speech tzar. But keep Assange out of the news, obviously, best be forgotten. Don't ask why.

I didn't say anyone didn't have representation I said people don't like it when they don't and that this situation led directly to the Revolution and the Civil War.
The Civil War didn't break out over night it took decades to fester into violence.
There is very little common ground between the parties at this point and compromise is going to become harder and harder. Anyone who can't see the parallels is historically ignorant.
California has been the richest state for decades and was still #1 LONG before it was a blue state. Same with New York and Illinois.
The south was blue from the 1820s until the 1970s. It's idiotic to blame the Republicans for the lagging southern economies.
It's also worth noting that the only states that are losing population are California, New York, Illinois, and West Virginia. 3 deep blue states and 1 red state that was the bluest state in the country 20 years ago before Democrats intentionally destroyed the state economy by killing the coal industry.
