We have merged two threads into 1 as we like to have 1 thread per topic. We don't need a thread on how she's running the 10,000 and then another on how she did. Here is a video of her on the final lap:
Like she was going to lose last year? Would have been exciting to see her run another fast 1500 at the conference championship, but they had other plans this year.
I doubt this is a record attempt. I bet Tuohy just runs to win and not for time. Vestri has a 32:08. It's more a question of if Vestri (or someone else) tries to push the pace.
My guess is this will be amazingly slow. State has Quarzo and Howlett and Vestri has Roark etc, but no one really has incentive to make this fast. Tuohy can just cruise behind leader and win from 600 out. Good first experience for kt at 10k on track. 25 laps on track is often a mental challenge. I guess 33:xx for the win.
NC st has 9 in the 5k, including Bush, Chmiel and Hays fresh. No Starliper?

I think you meant Syracuse has Vestry & Roark.
As others have said, this is surprising to me based on Tuohy stating that she wanted to concentrate on the 1500. Also as others have said, this is probably for points. The coaches probably looked at it and are confident enough for points at the other distances that they're putting Tuohy here to maximize points. Also she is using it for a tempo and to gain some strength going into the NCAA championship. This will be the one and only time she'll run it.
I would have preferred that she run the 800m at conference. Develop her speed reserve for 1500m. that is what she lacks. The 10000m, other than a tempo run, makes no sense to me, at least for her anyway.
Not as stupid as you think. As I mentioned above, it's for maximizing points.
Also, think about how KT faded at the Sound Running 5000. She ran the penultimate lap in 75.63 after reeling off 71s and 72s. She did run the final 400 in 72.09 to run 15:03.12 but if she had kept that consistency throughout, she could have gotten under 15. That tells me she could work on that strength and running a fast 10000 at this point could help a lot with that as well as giving NC State a shot at 10 points that they would not have otherwise had.
Are they going to split the 5k into two heats? 53 runners. Just noticed Maatoug is scheduled to run it as well. That will be a quick double for her, Appleton (assuming they are both in the 1500m final).
She's probably going to focus on the 1500m in the post-season and is just running the 10k as a workout and to see if she likes the event for future reference.

I was going to make that same point. That is that I think Tuohy's problem at sound running was strength rather than speed. A hard 10k is what is needed here. As to points, given the distribution of State runners in the 5k, I don't think NC State is trying to maximize points.
NCSU has nine (9) entered into the 5,000m race; however, three (3) of those (Hartman, Tyynismaa, and Shaw) are also listed in the 1,500m preliminary. Wondering if the plan would be to DNS in the 5,000m any of them that advance and run the 1,500m final earlier in the evening.
Chmiel (#21) and Hays (#8) already have solid NCAA qualifiers at the 10,000m distance. Quarzo has a #33 10,000m mark this season too so she is probably already "ticket punched" for that distance to get to regionals.
I am posting seldon these days as I find most of the threads disintegrate into attacks by trolls with defenses by others,
Tuohy's 5000 result was just a "bad" day. She said she was'nt feeling great and was getting pretty tired right after going through 3000 at 9:00 at a very steady pace.
The entry in the 10000 I see as just part of probably a whole week in recovery. Someone mentioned a "tempo". Team points a bonus.
There are often many DNS's in the ACC 5000 (it is last event and "everyone" is entered "just in case".
NC St usually places top runners in event they will not run in NCAA regional, and those who feel ready run the 5000. Bush might be an exception to that though.
This year, maybe later: She has potential 30:30-30:40, but 31:20-31:50 should suffice here. I'm impressed by her 4:06/1500 last year, good speed for distance runner. Can she get down to 4:00/1500? That's a pre requisite for world class.
Fast forward, some years down the road: She's not in the Hassan/Gidey League, but she's a shoe in, I think, in future U.S. teams at 5000/10,000. Ultimate potential - I see 14:25/29:50, with all going to plan by age 30. Seems like a good person too.
Some of you are overthinking this. KT's tempo pace based on her recent 5k is ~5:10 or 32:07 10k pace.
While it's entirely plausible that she could win this with a moderate effort, you can't calculate tempo pace based on 5k pace.
Nice tempo, it beats Amanda Vestri's pr of 32:08, which is NCAA all time #18. In a crowded spot on the list 32:07 would be #15 all time between Allie Ostrander and Aliphine Tuliamak. That seems a bit quick for a 6.2 mile tempo run.
