NYPOST: Plus-sized traveler demands free seats, better accommodations on airlines

I'm curious about Southwest's "customer of size" policy of offering an additional seat at a discount for someone who can't fit into one seat. Does that discount extend to other people who are not obese but require a 2nd seat for medical reasons? I hope they offer that same discount because if they don't they're showing favoritism toward a class of people because others with legitimate reasons for needing a 2nd seat can't get the discount.

It is bizarre that airlines weigh your baggage and you pay accordingly but do not weigh you the passenger. What happens when obesity finally gets so bad that aircraft are taking off over their safe loading weight?

They do offer the option to pay more. It's unreasonable to expect airlines to offer it for free.

Would someone who is arguing that “thyroid conditions” cause almost all cases of obesity today care to provide any evidence showing how or why these mysterious “thyroid conditions” have outright exploded in the U.S. populace in the past few decades? Where were all of these “thyroid conditions” 30, 50, or 100 years ago? And why do so many people in the U.S. recently have this affliction, versus people in so many other nations? I’m amazed that “thyroid conditions” are so cognizant of nation’s borders.

The obvious, demonstrable reason that many people irrationally dismiss is that the obesity epidemic in the U.S. today is a result of 1) the “Standard American Diet” (SAD), which is high in sugar, fat, and calories, compounded by 2) an increase in sedentary lifestyles. Kids of a just a few decades ago used to actually “play” outside, and engage in physical activities. Far too many kids of today spend hours sitting in front of video games, or texting their days away. And if a high-calorie snack is within their reach at the time, they’re happy to indulge. Obese kids become obese adults.
And the topper is that anyone who expresses any concern that their family members or friends could benefit from changing bad habits and in turn losing weight to get healthier, they are accused of “fat shaming.” Is it really a mystery why obesity is prevalent in the U.S. today?

Right wingers are more likely to be obese. They eat more meat (partly to own the libs), they eat less fruits and veggies, they are more likely to hold irrational anger and fear against the world (thanks Faux News!), and they exercise less (glued to Faux News programming, gotta see what those dastardly libz are doing to destroy America today). So much for the "Don't tread on me" philosophy, if they really believed it they would take better care of themselves and in the process they wouldn't have had to whine about rising insurance costs and covid-era restrictions!

It's because this is the crap that will pass in Biden's World. People complain to an attorney who is willing to go pro bono and get his or her name out there and go for the free stuff. Yes, she could buy a first class seat, but that's not happening in Biden's World, it's free all day long baby!!!!!!

Ozempic leads to weight loss, but not healthy weight loss. It raises heart rate, and causes more muscle loss than fat loss. Also, when people get off the drug, they just gain the weight back.

So no -- not the first time we've had weight loss drugs, and these are not a breakthrough. Habits > Weight loss drugs.

I agree with her comment about wheelchair accessible bathroom.

It isn't just the food, guys. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds cause weight gain, and who knows was percentage of the population is on those. The reported # is 13.2 percent, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot more. My mom is technically on one, but she and her doctor call it a sleeping pill.

I had a person who was bigger next to me and they clearly were a bit embarrassed and tried hard to not have their fat pushing on me the whole time. Can't ask for much more than that to be honest

I felt bad but also had extra respect for them.

They can travel with dignity by losing weight, buying business class, Or hell buying an exit row seat which usually is what, $50 more max? Or just moving to a row with two empty seats, which I do all the time. They take up the space of two people. This wasn't done to them. They chose it. Heaven forbid being morbidly obese has a consequence. The seats already can accommodate obese people. These are morbidly obese +. Enough is enough.

You can't expect to travel with dignity if you don't live with dignity in the first place

They shouldn't even be eligible for health insurance

Nor should they be eligible to fly economy if their body is going to roll over into the adjacent seats
