This is a dumb question because part of what made Bekele great was that he would not let this situation happen. Bekele won the 2008 olympic 5k in 12:57 pushing the pace himself from 2k out. If Taoufik Makhloufi and Mo Farah are both fresh at the end of a tactical 5k, who wins? Its dumb because Taoufik Makhloufi wouldn't be fresh at the end of a 5k if Mo Farah was in it.
This is a stupid comparison because Makhloufi is a 800/1500 guy, while both Farah and Bekele are 5000/10000 guys. Farah will almost always win. You guys act like Farah is so slow compared to Bekele but he’s not far behind, he just focused on titles instead of fast times. Prime Farah in a well paced race with good conditions can 100% run under 12:45/26:30. He destroyed the top guy over and over again without fail in two Olympic cycles. Pure dominance. If Bekele pushes the pace 2k out Farah can just sit on him and dust him on the final lap.
No.
This isn't a case of Ingebrigtsen vs the field in the 5000 where Ingebrigtsen wins as no one can drop him and he's got such a good 1500 pb.
Bekele would win over Farah. John Kellogg thinks Bekele could close off a 357 final map with a 53.
Farah had plenty of years to run 1245 and 2630 and never did it.
Please remember Bekele ran 1237 and 2617 pre super shoes. If you set up an Ineos sub-26 challenge with perfect pacers the whole way and the supes shoes, I think he'd break 26 flat.
This isn't even close. KB wins. Mo Farah has a great kick but has been outkicked in championship races by relative unknowns.
True but not exactly a routine occurrence, and when Ibrahim Jeilan surprised him in that World Championship 10,000 whatever year that was, he closed in something like 52.5. (I just rewatched it - last lap was 53.12 leader to leader but Jeilan was at least 0.5 back at the bell. Epic race.)
Bekele. He could close in 52-53 off of a fast or slow(er) pace and he's even eased off a bit the last 100 meters in doing so (i.e. Beijing 5k 2008). Plus he could strike earlier.
