If Valby runs 8:32 at high-altitude, it’ll shock the world.
Just as I had mentioned on a different thread that Tuohy WILL NOT run sub-15:00 in the 5000 at high-altitude, (but if she did, it’ll shock the world).
The race will most likely be won in the low 8:50’s.
4958' is not high-altitude
5000 feet is absolutely high altitude for people coming from sea level. IF BYU and Utah are smart, they will take it out HARD and hope to gas the significantly better Tuohy. Also some people react differently. Having indoors this high up is like an outdoor meet in 90 degree weather, it can be an equalizer and lead to some crazy upsets. Maybe Tuohy is a good responder, but we don't know, and if the schools from altitude don't try to really test her they are being dumb. Especially in the 5k, half the field is from altitude, I don't think Tuohy is the prohibitive favorite she would be if this meet was held at sea level.
An 8:32 at such high altitude would be insane. Definitely not happening. Very few US women pros could do that.
Agree. USATF indoors was just there, Constien and Morgan (who just ran 8:30 at millrose) ran 8:48, & Constien set the facility record.
8:32 is not happening.
To add on, don't constien and morgan train at elevation? meaning they likely race better than most at 5k feet. Anything under 9:00 would be very quick for a champ race at altitude. a 15:00 5k is just absurd, it won't happen.
2E is 5 sec per K faster than anyone in the field at any distance from 800 m up... No one else stands a chance
What's 20 seconds faster than anyone else at 5K if not more
I imagine NC State will get there several days beforehand to acclimate...
Even if she has to push a motorcycle 20 mi like Fonzie did, and compete in a dance contest, she still easily win
she only is 2s faster than the 2 seed for the ENTIRE 5k, she has a 3s a k advantage in the 3k. Neither make her so much better than everyone else that altitude won't effect her.
Plus a few days is not going to acclimatize anyone. Nico, Yared, etc. have publically said it took them months to get adjusted to altitude.

Yeah well her 3K is 15 seconds faster, and the girl who cut the course her time doesn't count
And her mile time is like six or seven seconds faster than anyone else in the field

Yes they both do. Not only train at altitude, but raised also. Constien grew up in CO and I believe Morgan in Utah. Mackay (new balance) beat Constein at sea level running away from the field but lost to her at USATF. She had done some altitude training but is based in Boston. Athletes that grew up at altitude should have some advantage I would think.
Her BU qualifier was legit. Conference could have been various reasons. Whether or not she just runs the 3000m is key. Conversely, if she just concentrated on the 5000m, she might be Tuohy’s toughest competition in that race.
That is, unless the mysterious Natalie Cook also shows up fit and ready to dish out some pay-back.
Wasn't! She ran less distance than 3k. How is that legit?
Tuohy will win both EZ
valbymania stop pretending to be a tuohy fan, olemomoi will destroy valby anyways

Haha. If you train at low-altitude (say 1,000’). And then RACE at high-altitude (4,958’), you’re GOING to feel that. It’s most noticeable in the ability (or lack thereof, to BREATHE).

Haha. The Fonz.
Unfortunately, several days beforehand may not be enough. Most often to truly be “okay” with the high altitude, it’s about a 2 week period needed.
NOTE: Now, with that being said, she IS by FAR faster than anyone in the 3000 and 5000 fields and really has nothing to worry about if she plays it safe.

Going up to altitude only 2 days ahead is not enough time to acclimate.
My intuition favors Tuohy because she likes to distribute her effort wisely. She races by gauging what she needs to do to win with a purpose not to waste her energy.
Silly statement. She lost the 3000 last year. She lost badly in the USATF 5000. She lost her 5000 at BU. She lost twice this year. She wins when she is better than her competition and loses when she is worse. Are you saying Valby is better than her bu Tuohyvran a smarter race in XC? I think Tuohy was better.
