Doesn't matter if the football teams are "relevant" if 40,000 people will in town for the game and there are not enough hotel rooms to sustain a football game and major cross country championships. I am sure they have done the math and it does not add up. And if they moved forward next November we will hear everyone on here bitching that the NCAA is a bunch of morons for allowing the NCAAs to be hosted the same week as a football game.
Regarding Panorama farms - i attended the ACCs (my first visit to Panorama) and my first thought is this is another Rim Rock "access" disaster waiting to happen. One way in and not enough parking.
From what I gather it is commonly agreed that Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Florida State and Indiana have the best courses and NCAA experience.
Is the Virginia course on par with any of these NCAA experiences in course layout, traffic control, parking, tent city, warm-up, available hotels, to name a few ? Perhaps someone with more experience can compare this one to other courses. I hope this is not crony nepotism as our sport and its student athletes deserve better if not the case.
I also attended the ACC Championships at Panorama Farms a few months ago in October of 2022. I drove up from the Raleigh area the morning of the race (3.5 hr drive). I'm certainly no expert on the logistics of these things, but you had a lot of people at the ACC Championship as well. I would estimate there were around 1,500 to 2,000 spectators in attendance. Yes, at NCAAs you will basically have double the number of teams (and probably fans). But the parking and traffic wasn't bad at the ACCs. Yes, there is that small bridge that narrows to one lane. But it wasn't an issue at the ACCs.
There are a ton of open fields surrounding that course that could be used for parking. I don't think they should have any problem finding additional parking area, if needed. As for the hotels that might be available and limitations due to a football game that same weekend, I have no idea if that could be a problem or not. But, as others have said, you could just get a hotel in a town an hour or so away, and make the drive over there. Shouldn't be too big of a problem. What's the expected attendance at an NCAA cross country championship?...5,000-7,000? Should be more than enough hotel availability within the vicinity of Charlottesville, even with the football game.
Rojo, you're seriously concerned about lack of hotels due to a UVA vs Duke football game? The last time either of these teams was relevant in football was...1991? (Seriously no idea when it was...I have to imagine for Duke it was when Steve Spurrier was the coach?). If that stadium is 3/4 full I'd be surprised...esp for a game that late in the season.
Hope it stays in C-Ville. It's a fun town. The campus is beautiful. You're close to a ton of great breweries and wineries. Arrive a day or two early, head out to the Shenandoah Mountains and Skyline Drive. Visit Monticello.
If you can't find a hotel, check out some of the local campgrounds. Nice cabins with heat and air.

A November football game against Duke. They will be lucky to get 20k in the stands. Probably less than a few K taking up hotels.
Football really does not move the needle here at all.

Also Charlottesville has grown into a relatively large city. There are plenty of hotels/amenities.
The start line area needs to be expanded, but could be easily be done.
The road leading to the course and the one-way bridge is not just a traffic problem, but with where all the cars will be parked, the athletes won't have a lot of room to warm up in private. I'm shocked this hasn't been mentioned more. Of course, if not enough people get there early enough before the first race there could be some problems on the road.
Traffic, the team area, the start, spectators... everything will be tight and intimate this year.
Overall its a great nationals course imo, rolling hills and patchy grass to provide some challenging elements. Also very spectator friendly, if you study the course map beforehand you'd probably see the men a few handleful of times over 10k. (with some jogging of course)

Why do they need to warmup in private? I think it would be cool if they were warming near the fans.

They should not be warming up by fans. Absolutely not.

At ACCs this year, the teams were all warming up out in the open. They were passing by fans who were walking towards the course from the parking area. There was absolutely nothing wrong with that. I walked by Vin during that time and wished him luck. I saw Tuohy and the rest of the NC State girls warming up. Have you ever been to an XC meet?
As someone said about the course, it is very easy to run around and see various parts of the race. There is a large middle area that is actually ideal for this (the area of the start), but I would assume that during NCAAs they may be more strict about allowing spectators to be there, as you have to cross the course to enter into it. I gotta say, XC fans usually know what they are doing when it comes to jumping across a section of course to get to a vantage point for viewing.
I don't think the athletes want to warm up with thousands of people shuffling to and around the course area from their cars or weaving around thru the parking area to get to an open field. The warm ups isn't for fans and spectators, the race is.

Warmups involve a few miles of easy jogging and can be performed in any outdoor setting free of bears and uncontrolled automobile traffic.
If there is an issue to the bridge or a traffic snarl on the residential road, what is the contingency for ambulances if there is an emergency? After Damar Hamlin one would figure associations would be hyper sensitive to these scenarios. Even in the unlikely event this could happen, I wouldn’t want be involved. Say goodbye to your career. Hello lawsuits.
Lieu is a French word that has its origin in the Latin word "locus".
Both mean "place", giving rise to the expression, in English, "in lieu of" (in place of).
People often gain mistaken impressions of the meanings of words they come across, and they continue in that mis-impression until the occasion comes when they attempt to employ the word in communication with others.
