Clearly more to the story wrote:
According to the Runner’s Tribe interview, Lee Bobbin has been coaching him for “5 or 6 years” and Myers had a national champion age-group athlete (Tomas Palfrey) as an older training partner from the beginning. (It also sounds like he had been training with another more local athletics group before that.) They began “throwing them into sessions” with Telford’s group in late 2020 in order to have someone to push Palfrey.
In short, story sounds fairly similar to Jakob: a talented kid with strong work ethic starts training seriously around 10 with good coaching and training partners, stays healthy and consistent, and six+ years later is world-class.
Just listened to it too. I think this lines up. My key takeaways:
Myers has been seriously training since at least age ten with this same coach. He has had the same (separate) physio/strength and conditioning coach this whole time.
Since 2020, Myers’ group has done sessions with Telford’s group.
Bobbin clearly wants to be known as the coach of Myers, but I think the line has been blurred since 2020 and Bobbin is actually an assistant coach on Telford’s group now. It sounds accurate to say Myers is coached by Teford AND Bobbin, which Bobbin taking the lead but both very active.
Long run 10-12 miles. Mileage at 60+ per week. Mondays some sort of short temp, Tuesdays aerobic threshold work, Wednesday easy, Thursday faster stuff, Friday off, Saturday hills, Sunday long.
Nothing earth shattering re his training. “Just” another super talent getting super training starting at a young age. Looking forward to his bright future.
