This post seriously needs to have guardrails put on it. The world record in the marathon was set by a dude who was 37 (almost 38) at the time just last year for Christ’s sake. I know a number of people in their early 40s running comparable times to their early 30s in the HM and M. For many hobby joggers, training and lifestyle are the biggest factors vs. physiological age.
Now if you are talking about events where top end speed is a factor then ya… late 30s starts to become an issue.
You obviously have lower than average I.Q. Charles Barkley talks about the errors of arguing with people like you.
I specifically stated decline in maximum heart rate and the decrease in performance which will occur 100m & 200m freestyle swimming and 400m & 800m running. In my post I stated increases in mileage can lead to good performances near age 40 for 10000m to 50K.
Gosh you are stupid.
So, if you're so smart, explain why cardiac output doesn't decline for 40 year olds?
It's not a matter of priorities. I've always said, "The body starts to go at 35."
Some can still do it after that (and I liked the Ranger who said it got harder at 30) but it's a lot harder. I mean Bekele ran 2:01 at 37, Meb won Boston at 38 and made an Olympic team at 40. And the key is to never let it go as once it goes after that age, it's almost impossible to get it back.
But a pro can be hanging and produce one of their very best performances at 37 and then be totally shot a year or two later.
Tom Brady is a huge outlier.
For the record, Eliud Kipchog is 38.
Simpson has no kids, etc. Jonathan Gault wrote a profile on her and was telling me how the fire and what not stopped her from doing much last year. I was just thinking, "No I think she's done."
I've been running 80-100 MPW for most of my buildups for about 9 years and I'm now 37. Ran 2:28 and 1:09 so a hobby jogger but not terrible. I ran my best around age 33 and stayed relatively consistent for awhile. However, last year I just noticed things were not quite the same, like they were a little off. For instance, it took longer to get back into decent shape after a recovery block. Running workouts felt a tick harder than it used to, even after weeks of workouts/training. It felt more jarring and less relaxed. I noticed I get more tired in general, needing a little more recovery time. Last year's times were not terrible but I'm not near PR shape anymore, despite training smarter, eating better, and resting more.
I don't know, it's just hard to explain, there is just something slightly missing that makes running a tad more difficult, the muscles stiffer, aches and pains last longer, and having to take more recovery days. It is real and I attribute it to aging. I'll be 38 soon.

It does. Everything physiological is subject to aging.
