Pat Mcafee has this dawg on after his Olympic gold and asked the nfl question but Crouser appeared to be content sticking with shot put. Being an nfl lineman is easiest if you have the heoght/weight combo down pat because you have less competition. An athletic, strong and quick/fast 300 pound man should exhaust all their resources into football.
Is there a lot of money in throws? I cant imagine there is.
Why wouldnt a 6 foot 7 300 pound super athlete just become an olineman? I see no reason why Ryan couldn't have made the NFL with his size and athleticism.
One reason: Track and field is fun, football is not.

Maybe he likes being a legend in a sport he loves instead of playing a sport he might not like, where he might not be as good?
American football is terrible in almost every respect, but particularly for the linemen. It creates a terrible image of what kind of athletes kids should be. People on this board fat shame all sorts of other people but then think it’s alright to be a 330 lb lineman because it makes money. Never mind all of the aspiring kids that put on weight only to suffer excessive injuries and health issues for the rest of their lives. Compare the culture of a good high school XC team, lacrosse team and football team. it night and day how much more civilized and achievement oriented the XC team will be.
How good would our country be at other sports the world actually cares about? We make up sports to just feel good like we’re winners that only have 2 teams compete at a time and no one in the world plays. Why is flag football and lacrosse being added to the 2028 Olympics? So the US and other western countries can inflate their medal count while the IOC can make more money off of tickets and tv rights.

He receives a lot of attention being a gold medal winner while the only time an OL gets their name mentioned, is when they receive a holding penalty or miss a block.

Oh FFS get off your high horse. American football, baseball and basketball date back to the mid to late 1800s before the advent of modern international sports. They were hardly “made up to feel good about ourselves”. Lacrosse originated with native Americans and is essentially the oldest sport on this continent. And aside from football, basketball and baseball are now widely played throughout the world.
I give shot putters lots of credit because I do think that most national/international class ones could easily play OL in the NFL. They've got the size, strength, speed, and athleticism that NFL teams search for. Heck, many of them would probably make more just being on a practice squad then they make in T&F, and OL linemen tend to have long careers. Most T&F athletes don't really have options in other sports, while shot putters do, so I admire them for sticking with track.

Maybe he likes what he is doing. Can you comprehend that Mr nothing more than an anonymous troll?
Believe it or not, median career earnings for an NFL player is only about $3 million as longevity isn’t very long and journeymen get paid nothing like the stars. I’m sure Crouser has made much more than that doing something he enjoys and not putting himself through the arduous grind of a football career.

I expect he will have a better career and life just doing what he is doing.
Top throwers and heavyweight wrestlers definitely have the raw athleticism to play in the NFL. That's why they sometimes get tryouts.
But it's not just athleticism and physical techniques that is needed to play at that level. It's knowledge of different offensive and defensive schemes. That takes years to learn and tons of repetition. It's not that NFL players are more athletic. It's that they spent years specializing. This is the same reason that while some NFL players could be good throwers, sprinters or field athletes, they absolutely cannot suddenly become Olympic track and field athletes.
Crouser is 2nd on the all time high school shotput list behind Mike Carter. Carter earned a silver medal in the Olympics as a college sophomore, then had a hall of fame career as a nose guard in the NFL.
Yeah Carter got 3 rings with the Niners-unlike "Skeets" Nehemiah he parlayed his track career into a really good NFL career....
