We changed the title of this thread. It was initially entitled. "NO MU, NO PROBLEM. Keely Hodgkinson, Mary Moraa and Diribe Welteji in 800 scrap Wed (Feb 8)". You can watch the meet for free on the WA youtube page if you are in Ireland and many other countries. We have a VPN suggestion here.
I should clarify I meant more running no extra distance. Yes, it was bizarre in terms of trying to run an even effort. Kiprop always wasted so much energy running on the outside, so I don’t quite find it comparable. It’s different passing 5 athletes vs 15.

In the race I am referring to, Kiprop ran exactly as she did. Led at 300, went to last a lap later, then passed the entire field to win while looking around like it was all a joke.
One of the strangest and exciting races I've ever seen. Moraa goes out crazy the first 200m then 2 secs later it looks like she transitioned to a tempo run, like it was a planned fartlek in practice or something.
57 low for rthe leader (Yarigo).Keely and Moraaa way back - 59.
Minus running in lane 2 too often, that is how Keely needs to run. Big positive splits are not her game. Going out in 26 or 55 is not the best for her.
1:57.87 WL for KH, who looked so relaxed, almost like she was running 1500 pace vs. Yarigo looking like she was about to tie up…to Yarigo’s credit she fought well when Keely overtook her on the final backstretch and ran 1:58.4, a lifetime best indoors or outdoors. It was awesome to see her so joyous after seeing her time.
I keep telling you all that no Kenyans like to run indoors. If you see them on the circuit, it's because they've been coaxed out of training to make the meets exciting. We can't even be bothered to slap together a half decent team to the world indoors.
The money must've been too good for Mary to refuse.
Great race for Yarigo, she's usually the pacer in a lot of DL's, but legit in her own. Also great to see Keely close to her BR with a conservative start. I could definitely see her back in the 1:55's this year.
Jenny Meadows just said Keely would be very upset with that. Why?
I imagine she ran a negative split 157. I can't figure out how to rewind to get her exact splits.
I don’t think it was a negative split but it was pretty even, definitely looking like she could have run faster. I had the same reaction to Meadows’s comment. If KH had been running for time she surely would have been closer to Yarigo through 400 instead of taking a more measured approach.

Maybe internally (and Meadows’ former coach is her coach?) she was targeting 1:56, but the obsession with times is a bit weird. She beat Moraa convincingly and looked well within herself. It wasn’t a time trial.
Jenny Meadows just said Keely would be very upset with that. Why?
Because she knows she's in shape to run a lot faster.
Of course, if she ran 1min 57.20 last indoor season ( coming back from injury), and just coming off a world record 600m, nothing else than 1min 56 something would naturally be disappointing
Keely, generally, runs better off a conservative first lap which is probably to do with her basic 400m speed being a lot slower than a number of the top 800m women
