Pathetic. As somebody whom MSM might call a "right winger", I dated women of virtually every imaginable ethnicity and political point of view. In fact, I married an immigrant who identified as a Democrat.

She no longer identifies as a Democrat, but her entire family still does, and they berate her for having changed her mind, for having become an Independent. The sad part is that, while we are not Republicans (and neither of us has ever voted for a GOP candidate), her family often condemns us as "Trumpers".

My goodness. I just checked the thread for the first time since page one and it's gone off the rail. Which is to say, I think I've made my point: It's better to hook up spontaneously with new people in a natural environment than search for love via social media. Although, it's easier said than done. For example, I said hello to a runner as she passed me while I was running on the roads this morning and she blew me off like a feather in the wind. Is it too much to say good morning?

That's the problem with social media. People rely on it like a crutch to interact (I know, I'm a hypocrite). I'm curious to know how many people here have used internet dating services with any success. Seriously. It's like playing the lottery. I must confess, though, I've read some profiles for fun. But I'd never go down that path. I'd be embarrassed. It seems to me that dating services are for the desperate.

There's a difference between a right-winger in the modern American sense and a conservative. Depending on which one you are, I might or might not feel sorry for your wife and her family.

Yes, I've had my share of rejections based on appearance alone, usually on blind dates. And that's OK, it comes with the territory, for both men and women. Sure, looks are important to everyone involved in the dating game, but I'm referring to male shortcomings like lack of wealth, education, etiquette, etc., not the superficial observations such as a woman's beauty that usually first attract men.

I just think many woman unfairly expect on a first date that the guy is prepackaged and good-to-go, not a fixer upper. There's a lot of societal pressure on men to be successful before being worthy of a woman. Of course, men have their high expectations of women too. Dating is complicated, more so long-term relationships. That said, I could not agree with you more about first impressions. FWIW: I'm no "catch".

PS. "Conservative" is a relative term bearing different meanings in different climes. For example, historically, classical liberals and American conservatives are virtually identical. It's also important to remember that Republicans are not "right-wingers". In fact they championed Marxism (through Horace Greeley's New York Tribune) in the party's early years. Republicans are viewed as "right-wingers" today because of a gross misconception of the left-right paradigm, and because of the shifting and narrowing of the Overton window.

No hate at all. I only feel pity for the right-wingers that have hijacked the modern Republican party. Not much about the Republican party today is "conservative" in any substantive sense.

Now men can't even check out women at fitness clubs without getting shamed. Some good-looking ladies deliberately bait men by wearing skimpy outfits and then cry wolf when we look. Sheesh.

This is a huge one for me. If someone can’t put their phone up for at least 30 min. and give their date their undivided attention, it speaks volumes about their priorities.

I see it all the time - couple out on a date, and they’ll be sitting there, silent, one or both of them mindlessly scrolling. Depressing.
