You need to be a fast runner to win, but you need to be a really good Cyclist/swimmer to even make it to the point where that matters.
Morgan Pearson is probably the best runner in the field (or one of) and look how long it has taken him to get to the point where he is there ibn races for that to matter. Also morgan started as a really good high school swimmer.
Morgan Pearson was the first American male to medal at the World Triathlon Championships in over thirty years. Not bad at all for a guy who was pretty much a runner in college.
