Will be interesting to see who he selects as new coach and if he’ll go to a group or continue to bounce around the UK training with different groups. he’s already moved around teddington, Loughborough and Leeds. And trained with different groups across that period.
There’s not an abundance of proven marathon coaches in the Uk beyond storey, Hobdell or Hawkins but not sure if any of those would make sense as they don’t have groups together. Canova and Emile makes the most sense if he’s moving to the marathon but he seemed like in an ideal setup at bowerman even if Jerry isn’t there all the time
Man who has never won anything of note leaves organisation no one outside of letsrun has ever heard of.
World indoor bronze, Great North Run winner, European record holder (indoor 5000). Like them or hate them, BTC are definitely the most high profile distance group in North America, and one of the more high profile in the world (messing around with google trends shows NN running gets more searches in Europe and Africa).
Always find it funny when people type the phrase "no one cares except on letsrun" and then proceed to post on letsrun. Didn't realize we weren't meant to talk about running on a running forum.
He's at 13:05 and 27:10, I don't think its impossible for him to get under 13 and 27. A new coach could help by giving him a new stimulus. He has a good kick but just couldn't hold on long enough in 5k/10k races.

Not sure what you mean JWH. There is a saying like that but not sure how old it is. Maybe you’re thinking of a competing saying? Many of the monkeys will upvote you because they have no clue and you are a good poster. What am I missing?
Oh you are thinking of doors…well he is still not wrong though it is just that it is usually a chapter ending and beginning…many use his saying though, but it does sound slightly awkward.
Many may use it, but they're just bastardizing the original.
You see, it doesn't work with chapters, because books have this annoying habit of ending, and therefore, every book in existence has a chapter that completely contradicts the adage; in that, it's the last one.

This makes little sense though because buildings have doors but every building has a finite about of doors just as books have a finite amount of chapters. So every building has a final door if you were to go through each one of them much like the chapters in a book. So although you have a point, your reasoning behind it is dubious.

Doors aren't sequenced in the way that chapters are; that is, there isn't a narrative running through them. Therefore, the original works because you could just be going back and forth between 2 different doors and it wouldn't infringe upon the phrase.

Maybe or maybe not. Some buildings have a door to enter and another to exit. Many books have chapters that could be read in any random order. This is more nuanced than you acknowledge.

When one Internet forum comment ends, another begins.
Just have to say that you guys are cracking me up with this esoteric, highly logical, and mostly dignified/courteous debate about chapters and doors. Thanks for the levity!

Whoops, was looking at outdoor results. Too late to turn back, gotta double down now!
He ran 12:57.... at BU though. Doesn't REALLY count.

Was going to point that out. My point was more that he can't call on those times regularly. He ran his best time in a time trial on an indoor track that is known to be abnormally fast.
Maybe a new coach could help him kick on in the 5 and 10 and he could be a little more consistent. I thought he would do something in the 10 at Euros this year, I even had money on him for the win. But he did what he does in every championship 5 and 10 and faded hard well before the race heated up. FWIW, I think he'll still go to Budapest on the track next year

Also Parkes, Bester, Anderson and Kempson. Their all super coaches as well as elite runners, though of course depends what your looking for.
More likely his bad championship racing results from the past couple seasons. 2022: World Championships -- 14th in the 5,000. Commonwealth Games -- 4th in the 5,000. European Games -- 12th in the 10,000. 2021: Olympics -- 14th in the 10,000. 6th in 5,000 heat.
He ran some fast times with BTC, but bad racing results.
Not to sure what the “European Games” (it’s the European Championships), but earning five results in the top 20 in the main championships in the World looks during a two year period look quiet strong good results to me.
Perhaps, Scott iOS sick of being treated badly by a coach who claims to have not known what nandrolone was when the drugs cheat was caught.
When talking about professional athletes, in any sport really but we're talking Tack & Field here, it's important to remember that these are individuals that have won/been highly successful at every level they've competed at. Being a professional and competing at the absolute highest level doesn't change that mindset or those expectations.
If he thinks himself good enough to make a living being a competitive runner, I'd put a substantial amount of money down that says he's not happy finishing 14th in a field of 25 (i.e. in the bottom 50% of the race) in the Olympics or not advancing to the finals in the 5k at the same meet. Of that list that Les posted and you quoted, maybe he doesn't beat himself up too much for the 4th at Euro's. But, it likely stings a bit that he didn't get that medal.
Granted, to me you're an anonymous poster on an internet message board, but unless you happen to be a professional track athlete, don't be silly and conflate your notions of success with theirs. More successful athletes have changed coaches and/or training situations having achieved more than a 14th, 4th, 12th, 14th, 6th (in a prelim and did not advance) in their most recent major championships.
Likely doesn't want to be associated with a team under a doping cloud.
Look how so many here were accusing him when Saint Shelby got busted.
Yeah, just make up any old sh!t. Why not?
It was a very reasonable post.
Nike's Oregon operations are basically the new BALCO. Salazar banned for four years for doping control infractions, then life for sexual misconduct. Houlihan banned for literal dope in her blood, while her coach and group continued to train with her (except for one with ethics).

I'm not so sure. His championship racing had been poor which another coach might be able to sort out. I'm sure the BTC move to Eugene influenced the decision, too - why would a 28 year-old want to spend some of the best years of his life in some backwater if he doesn't have to?
Other than Canova, don't rule out him joining Gary Lough's group. He has several Nike athletes who are successful over the marathon, including the silver and bronze medalists from Tokyo. I can't see who else he could go to in the UK if he wants an internationally experienced and successful coach.
