I had the good fortune to live in Wellington, NZ in the early 1980's. Pretty much anywhere in the city and its inner 'burbs would be at the top of my list: lush, hilly, beautiful and well maintained homes, ocean/harbor, etc. On my first weekend long run with the running club I joined they said the loop would be just under 9 miles. Kinda low-key, I thought. But it seemed in places to go straight up or plummet down (the kind of downhill where you're "braking" all the time and can't relax). There was no reliable way to measure elevation gain and loss, but it had to be in the 1,000s. I was duly chastened, and ready for more once my calves stopped screaming. Go to Google Street View and look around. Definitely a spectacular place to run (and made all the better for having Walker, Dixon, Roe, Audain at/near their peak and having the average Kiwi appreciate them!)
