I’d argue that 3:31 vs 3:34 is a solid gap
not in the same race, hocker and teare have always gone back and forth, I'd be willing to bet that teare could run at least 3:32
I’ve been wondering where the hell Cole Hocker had been (haven’t we all) and then I watched new gens newest video where I find out he’s running on the Oregon Track Club with a bunch of oregon guys who couldn’t get a pro contract. No disrespect to those guys but Cole Hocker should be running on bowerman not on the oregon track club where he just dusted a field of nobodies at club cross country nationals. What do y’all think of this?
He ran 3:31 and finished 6th at the Olympics as a 20 year old with Ben Thomas as his coach. Don't think its unreasonable for him to want to stick with his college coach given that success he has had. Maybe he ends up on Bowerman at some point.
At the time, he had a 3:50 miler to train with. I love that he's running xc. That is great base training. But he is going to need top training partners to compete for medals. His ceiling is still as high as any American miler in ten years.
Jakob trains with 3:30-3:32/13:10ish runners. Kerr had Amos in the club if he needed anyone to push him for speedwork. Tim was at his best with Elijah Manangoi.
The difference is Hocker has a world class kick. Teare does not. Hocker is a threat to win a tactical race against world class competition. Teare not so much. To be a world class 1500 runner you have to have that kind of kick. If you do not, then the longer distances are in your future. Evan Jager was a 3:32 1500 runner who had to move up because he didn't have a 1500 runner's kick. Times are less important because it's extremely hard for a runner to run away from a world class field in a distance that short.
Tell that to JI from Norway. He has changed the way the 1500m is run/won on the biggest of stages. Fast even pace throughout running 56/57’s with a subtle squeeze versus a sit and kick.

Exactly who? Are you counting Filip who hasn’t been that good in years? Nijel Amos was not a Brooks Beast not sure who else you’d mean. Tim was plenty good in 2019 with Manangoi injured the whole year.
