Tempoing the 2 mile is using the word tempo very loosely, they probably were just getting a solid effort in to add onto the work that was done in the 1600.
Invitationals get rolling next week in Idaho, should be some fun racing in the next 4-6 weeks.

Does Cole Reed even run cross? Not sure it makes sense to include a guy that has one career XC race as a “returner.”

Yeah, I don’t think “tempo” is the right word. It was a pretty windy day after they ran the mile, which had great weather.
There were a good amount of notable 3200s around the valley. Stockett and Fish going 9:19 and 9:21, younger Stockett going 9:36 and Clough going 9:39. Andrew Ringert went 9:35 to win by 40 seconds after winning the 1600 by 8 seconds. Noe doubling 4:23/9:44, Cody Lucas going 4:27/9:44. All really solid days in those 3200s in not ideal conditions.
Freshmen are running well, too. Hyrum Tuft broke 10, Drew Donahue of Centennial ran 10:06, Maxwell Taggart from Eagle ran 10:25, Thomas Kurtz from Rocky ran 10:28, and Austin Riley from Mt View ran 10:28. I would think all 4 of those last guys would have a shot of joining Tuft as sub 10.

He did run a XC race in 2021. Time wasn’t spectacular, but he seems much improved as a runner.
In 2022 he did not runl.
he was either sick or injured the whole season or maybe did another sport.
But, because of the success he had this track season, I’m pretty sure his coaches and / or teammates will want him to do XC.

Obviously, some of these guys actually have faster PRs from last year or haven't raced some events very often, so marks can be out of whack from others. In no particular order:

Rocky mountain also has soph Jacob Thomas who ran a 10:18 3200.

Based on this, I think Rocky Mountain found a 5th and maybe a 6th for next XC season. So they have their core 4 already (Keith U, Lucas, Reed, Tuft), And they also have: Thomas - 10 - 10:04 - 5 seconds behind Tuft Jensen - 11 - 4:38 - 3 seconds behind Tuft. Only ran a 10:20 in the 3200. He ran a 10:13 earlier this season so maybe this was an off race for him

Other guys like Noe Kemper and Kaden Helder have significantly faster lifetime bests as well, and that’s not accounted for.
I’m guessing that Reed is a low 10’s guy with 1:58.03 and 4:32 marks, so not sure he moves the needle much. CDA’s Wyatt Carr (8th grader- 9:15 3k PR from indoor) isn’t accounted for either. He probably slots in as a top 15 guy as is.
