i don't believe super spikes give an advantage on most cross country courses. tough to get that energy return, though maybe you do on a very hard packed course.
Is there anyone on this thread who was actually at the meet?
While yes, that course is normally a hard packed and fast surface, that was most definitely not true on Saturday. Cary had heavy rain Friday morning. Much of the course was soft and there were places where it was seriously muddy. None of it was like that course is when it's dry. Also, the girls championship race was last and parts of the course were somewhat torn up by then. She got none of the usual help from that course, and probably no tangible benefit from the shoes.
Here's hoping Irene runs more than 45 miles a week, or the mental gymnastics around here will reach a fever pitch.
not sure about mileage but shes a serious swim aficionado and DOES cross train with a decent amount of swimming. makes sense since her dad is the head swimming coach at WVU, her mom is also a swimming coach and her sister will be swimming for Yale next year. So in a way shes the black sheep of the family athletically. but it seems to be working out...
I watched the race on RunnerSpace. All during the race, where Riggs was awesome, I kept thinking, "Why isn't she running the tangents?" Seriously. There were some muddy places, but often she was running on the outside of a curve. Not that her lead was threatened or anything.
My kid races in a pair of Dragonflys and teammates have all the top shoes on their feet, and no, these shoes do not make a 20 second difference in a 5km cross race.
As for the VaporFly Next% and AlphaFly shoes on the roads, those DO make a massive difference as my old-man results prove. I only have "good days" nowadays when I run in the PBAX & plated super shoes... sucks but true.

Riggs' race was nothing less than astounding.
Yes it was, but the Touhy Fan Men on this site have to come up with something to justify someone running faster. It's not Katelyn's fault, it's the obsessed Fan Men on this site that have unhealthy obsessions.
