Granted, there is no one on her team for her to train with so that doesn’t help. But all the evidence above + her comments about getting annoyed with running around people in the first 1k has me thinking she would be uncomfortable in that scenario.
They probably have her training with some of the men. I think new mexico did that for kelati or kurgat, can't remember which.
Warby was asked in the post-race interview about the tangents. Her response was along the lines of "My coach tells me that, but I don't even know what the tangents are. I just follow the cart" If that's true, that's such poor coaching. Like sit down on a map and draw some tangents on a course and say "Run here. Not here. Ignore the cart." A talent like Warby is wasted at Florida if the coaching is that bad.
I have never seen anyone on the women's side in college run like Valby. It is always the same tactic. She is obviously extremely fit and believes going out super hard and depending on her fitness is her best bet. But for Tuohy she would have won two individual titles already, so it is hard to blame her for running her type of race. But with a runner as strong as Tuohy who is a much more battletested XC runner, some more detailed tactical planning was in order. Tuohy made up 12 seconds on Valby in the final 2k.
I don’t have any connection to Lynchburg, but in their defense Connor Mcrory was in the middle of the field at the two mile mark when he got stepped on and lost his shoe. he had to run back about 20 meters to get it, tried to put it back on with his gloves on and couldn’t do it, took his gloves off and still couldn’t do it, had to untie it with frozen hands to put it back on and then went on to finish the race (Marshalls asked if he wanted to quit and he refused). the whole incident took probably 90 seconds, and he was way behind the field. Cost them 4 places or so, especially since their number one Csorba DNF’d. The fact that he was that far behind at two miles and still beat a tufts runner though…
Everyone forgets Valby is from Connecticut, She's not from Florida, she goes to school there. Like saying Tuohy is from North Carolina. Tuohy is just a better runner. Valby is still amazing. Cant' take anything away from a person that competes to the final turn with Katelyn
If you watch an average HS cross country meet or any medium-size or bigger road race, you'll see plenty of people are just a bad at running the tangents. I've even seen runners get confused about where to turn on the same race course that they had won the previous year.

That's true. But not one of those people has a shot at winning a national championship. Big difference.
So she lost because she isn’t good at racing? Pretty sure she lost because she was racing Katelyn Tuohy. But unfortunately we aren’t allowed to celebrate KTs epic final kilometer because being a fan of her is creepy and weird.
Valby lost because of BAD COACHING. It didn't look like she knew the course or how close to the finish she was at any point of the race.
Valby easily ran 50 meters more than Tuohy because she didn't take tangents.
Why did Solinsky tell her to make a huge move at 1k? That's the worst time to make a move in a 6k, especially on a hilly course on a windy day.
valby didn't know how close she was to the finish because she runs hard almost to the point of blackout. her brain is mush when she's out there. as far as the tangents thing goes, she has been talked to about them, she just don't process the information when she is out there. sounds like she has a poor sense of direction and space to go along with a brain that doesn't function well during high intensity activities.
some people are just like that. in fact, a lot of runners are, but most of them have people to follow.
While I completely disagree that Valby lost on the tangents(Tuohy was going to win either way), I thought it was very strange and her comments on it were also strange.
I don’t blame coach as that is something you can tell someone over and over, but he’s not the one racing, she has to put it in the action.
I also remember thinking her racing style in the outside of lane 1 in track the spring was odd. She was like a little too farther away than most people would be. Which brings me to my next point.

I also see her acting as a pacemaker for most championship races for the rest of the year if she fix the thought process or reach and untouchable fitness level.

should have just kept running like Camryn Menninger who lost her right shoe 1K in and just kept going, running an entire 5K with one shoe. still managed to go 21 flat and not injure herself.

^^^thus thusly. In the recent NYCM 5k, Nur briefly followed the lead car right off the course, even though the finish line banner was right in front of him. Early in today’s race, Parker was just following the cam cart rather than the tangents, and by the finishing time—in which she pulled, mostly alone, 15(? 19?) women under the old course record—she was probably not thinking to clearly.
But it gives the hobby-joggers on here something to rag on.

Valby did not lose because of tangents. If the gap was bigger earlier, Tuohy would have just closed earlier. Tuohy ran 15 seconds faster pace over the final 2k. Valby ran a great race, but to think that tangents would have changed the outcome is a reach.
We simply don’t know. What I do know is that Valby stepped onto the biggest stage of her running career to date, with all the attendant pressure, in her own unique circumstances (like not having a big team around her), and delivered. Tuohy delivered as well.
