How many of our kids must die before we enact sensible gun control in this country. We have failed them. Nowhere else is like this.
We have failed them and this is blood on our hands.
You don't need a gun to kill a few people. Countless examples of people stabbing a few people. This guy wanted to kill these people, if he was unable to use a gun he'd kill them a different way.
CHICAGO (AP) — Most U.S. adults want to see gun laws made stricter and think gun violence is increasing nationwide, according to a new poll that finds broad public support for a variety of gun restrictions, including many tha...
Still, 12% of the population committing 60% of murders is different than 19% of the population committing less than 19% of murders.
You know how many people US foreign policy murders each year?
Will you shut the hell up! That isn't what we are talking about.
Go away already. Or at least try to stay on topic and quit ramming your unrelated obsessions down everyone's throat. This is beyond annoying and more than an acceptable nuisance.

A former football player has now killed 3 people on the campus grounds of UVA and still is on the loose traumatizing the campus for hours. The entire campus is sheltering in place included both of their cross country teams who advanced to NCAA finals. Please keep them in your prayers.
I don't get this "shelter in place" nonsense.
UVA is a big campus. If there is a shooter on the other side of campus, I am getting the heck out
[If I state the business establishment, my post may deleted.] Ten or so years ago, hostages we're held at gunpoint in a hotel off Century and Interstate 94, Woodbury, MN. One of the hostages escaped. Woodbury P.D. officer or officers killed the hostage who escaped. No charges against any Woodbury P.D.officer. Woodbury P.D. chief blamed the hostage/shooting victim. Said he should have sheltered in place. To answer your question, yes the hostage/shooting victim was Black. Yes the one or more officer involved was or were White. In a chaotic situation, one may be shot by anyone.

We are talking about a large campus with the shooter on the far side from your location. No real worries about trigger happy cops

Literally the stupidest thing in recent memory. And on this site, that is some accomplishment.
The odds of him having the will AND the opportunity AND the ability to stab 3 guys to death is near zero.

I’m a UVA parent - kid is on the xc and track team. Been a track fan for a long time and come here to look at what other track fans have to say. Most of the time it’s interesting and entertaining. The thread that followed the very humane initial post on this topic was nauseating to me as a track fan mainly, but also as a dad whose kid is just one in a million trying to get something positive out of college and the sport. That kid was hiding out in a darkened house with roommates all last night about six blocks from the scene while the guy was on the loose. Like I say, I appreciate the humanity of this initial post. Thanks for saying that. A lot of the arm chair criminology, phrenological and eugenic bull that follows it is beneath the intelligence of what I usually associate with the community of this sport. Makes me think of some of the other mindless commentary that gets posted here apparently forgetting how small this community actually is - and how the mean spirited things that are said could be landing on someone you know or who a friends of yours may know. Yes, I’m disproportionately sensitive on this one. But on a “college” thread, when college athletes are getting senselessly killed, and others are in a measure of fear and grief I’d hope for better from LRC. I’m not leaving track, but I won’t be coming back here to experience it. Not sure how to terminate my registration but I’ll figure it out.

U.S. has a violent history and U.S. culture is violent. Majority population in U.S. almost never were criminally charged for murdering Blacks and Native Americans up to 20th Century and pre-WW2 more likely than not majority population got away with murdering Blacks and Native Americans. The violence starts with our government. Nearly immediately upon conclusion of U.S. civil war, many of the big name Union generals went on to slaughter Native Americans.

I am sorry to hear that the discussion was upsetting for you. We need to keep in mind that these events and tragedies and close-calls are all about real people and their friends and families. Thank you for speaking up and I know that if we are to do better, feedback like yours is where it might start.
That said, I am so glad your child is alright. I won't pretend to conjecture what it must have been like. As a parent of a college student I wish you and all of us the best.
