Ottawa would be one of the best running city in the world if wasn't for the long winter.
I live in Halifax Doc, and the weather report is no measure of conditions here in Halifax.
all you have in Victoria is RAIN
Environemnt Canada says there is lots of opps for snow and highs still in the freezing temp -1 to -5 as highs...ummmm...the highs of 7+ and rain is totally accurate for Victoria.
I am sure Halifax is wonderful, but Victoria is much milder than any other Canadian City, including Halifax. So mild that our mile high ski mountain, just opened, partially two days ago.
I think Last week we had days of 11 and 14 degrees...
HALIFAX yesterday, 9 degrees, cloudy NO RAIN
Above link tells you about Victoria. I just researched Halifax. According to Environment Canada, Halifax receives between 1000 and 1600 mm of rain annually. This figure of course does not include the snow.
Victoria, in a temperate rain forest no less, according to Environemnt Canada receives only 665 mm of rain annually. AND no snow most years...trace some years and the odd storm every 4-5 years which melts in a matter of hours or days.
Halifax is warm for the maritimes, but does not come close to Victoria.
Check out the Elk Lake Boathouse (20 min run from my house. 25 min run from work. This is where the Canadian Olympic Rowing and National Triathlon Training centre are located.
The annual rainfall is mentioned there....1/3 of Halifax's

ottawa gets waayyy to cold in the winters. the east coast is beautiful, but not the best place in canada for running. all in all i'd have to say scarborough, pickering, whitby, and bc.... all of bc
Are you f***ing kidding me.,..i wouldn't step foot in scarborough, unless I wanted to get shot. Just because some good runners come from a particular region doesn't make it the ideal training environment. Scarborough and pickering are concrete jungles with more people in gangs than employed. f*** that shit. I agree with the west coast though.
Halifax has more rain than Vancouver!!!!!!!!!!!!
Halifax has more rain than any other Canadian City except for St. John's.
Halifax would have triple our rain forest rain, if the snow was counted as rain!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mwa ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!
From experience:
Halifax is ok, but the weather is terrible at times (i.e. wind and wet snow). Hurricane Juan runied the best part of Halifax running, Point Pleasant Park. Shubie Park is still solid.
Moncton is ok. Some good trails, but way too much snow.
Ottawa, Toronto and the rest of southern ontario gets too much snow to be in consideration.
Montreal and the rest of Quebec sucks.
Edmonton rocks! The winter weather isn't all that bad and the trails are very well maintained and you never double back.
Calgary isn't all that great. Good trails but too much city.
Vancouver is great. The trails are nice and the weather is good other than the rain, which happens every five minutes.
Edmonton must have something cause a few people say it rocks
No one has mentioned Kamloops. I have no idea what the weather is or what it's like for running but I just wanted to say "Kamloops."
there's no special city or place to train, if you train hard and smart you'll get fit and you'll race well. there was nothing special about guelph in 1995 but after a few years of dst's influence it becomes a place where some of the top runners in canada go to train.
Kamloops sounds like a fun place..I bet the bars are nice
meh... ran in kamloops in 115 degree weather a few summers back... never again
I agree, I lived in Edmonton for 7 years-until 2004 and it was great for going to school and for training. The winters were a little harsh but there are some good indoor facilities-200 m track at the university of Alberta. In Ottawa there are some nice trails and a new indoor track but the winters suck-typical eastern crap-lots of snow and freezing rain...

Calgary is a good place to live and train. You are at a moderate altitude, some gorgeous places to train and the Olympic oval is good for winter training. The downside is that winters can be long, cold and dark.
Edmonton is also nice, has some good trails and some great outdoor tracks along with 2 indoor tracks. Again, the winters can be tough.
Dr. E,
Where are the best places to run in Victoria? I have run the elk lake trail, what about others.
No idea about Victoria, but this morning I ran along Lake Ontario in Toronto for several miles. I wouldn't say that Toronto is the best running town, but this morning was amazing. There were driving winds and snow, it was freaking cold, but it was still wicked. Amazingly wicked. - - The Bunny.
What's Calgary like for running?
