Probably 50 feet. Remember, the bad guy probably has his pants around his knees.

300 meters would be ideal. To run a really great 300 you have to be almost as fast and explosive as a 200 specialist to set yourself up for a good time in the first half, yet almost as strong as a 400 specialist to survive the final 120 meters or so when you're swimming in ever-increasing lactate. The initial speed and explosiveness gets you rapidly away from the criminals in the opening seconds of the pursuit, and the power and efficiency after the first 18-20 seconds gets you well free of them after a couple blocks. No contest, you escape with the million dollar ring right until their friends pull up in a vehicle with a gun.
Mile
You’re not out running a gun

I'm carrying a ring or something that's worth a million dollars, and the criminals know this, so they are hella motivated.
Does for example a sub 4 minute miler have enough raw speed to lose them in the beginning?
800/1500
You'd have the speed to jet away from them and the endurance to continue to run away far enough to where they can't tail you.
Before you judge a man, you should walk a mile in his shoes... that way when you judge him, you are a mile away, and you have his shoes.
Typical beta male LRC question. An alpha male (none hereI guess) would run toward the crooks, not away.

Maybe if I was slow like you

That's a good point.
I'm not particularly alpha. And I'm not particularly fast (at any distance.)
But I am not particularly fond of jewelry either, so I would be prone to give them the ring,
So you might just say that in the true spirit of the amateur, I run solely for the enjoyment of running, and not for any advantage it might bestow upon me.
But it has been a fun idea to explore, nonetheless.
I would say the 400m hurdles. Speed for the initial getaway, enough endurance to continue to elude, and agility to clear obstacles.
800m
It was 1963 and I was walking home from the Sears on S Vermont Ave in Los Angeles. I had 32 cents in my pocket, the bus fare to Los Angeles City College the next day where I could cash a check.
# guys came up behind me, one on either side, and one directly behind me.
"We want 50 cents"
"I don't have 50m cents"
"Then we gonna have to kick yo..."
I left, running about 200 yards hard, then slowing for about 600 yards.
When I was several blocks from home, I looks back, and there they were, jogging up the street. I ran around several corners back to my apartment.
My level of fitness? About 1:55 for 880 yards, at that point in time, and 12th in the annual National Road Runners Postal 10 mile track race.

I actually was chased one time up Memorial Drive in Boston. All I heard was “Let’s get him!” And that’s all I needed to hear. I went across Mass Ave Bridge at about 5:40 pace and they had no chance. this was about 2 in the morning. I used to run home to Watertown from Logan Airport after I got a ride through the tunnel.
200m.
Most criminals will give up after 50m when they see you flying down the road. Criminal will be devasted. Then you just need to be able to jog slowly before finding a safe place to be at.
Let's be honest - if you're chased by multiple criminals in a city like New York, at least one is statistically likely to have at least a sub 12.0 flying 100m.
You'd need to be a good 400-800 runner to escape. If you can run 11.9/24.0/50/1:50 no criminal will be able to catch up with you. They'll jump over fences faster than you, but you'd be able to outrun them in a straight line (and their pants may be down around their knees which further helps you)
It's not all cities. Irvine is safe, same with Boise, Chula Vista, and Fremont. Although they're very different cities, they all have murder rates under 1/100k. As for states, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine (in that order) have the lowest murder rates; Mississippi and Louisiana have the highest.
Lol we all see the trend
No criminal can outrun lead at 900 f/s.
I'd recommend a Glock with a switch but that's illegal
In a place like New York city it's not about how far or even how fast but how agile. You need to be like a football RB juking around people and jumping over cars.
Need strength, speed and agility: so the 400mh is the perfect event
