Valby also ran on an oversized track. Forgot the exact dimensions. Smaller than the UW but larger than a 200m track.
yes, you are right - Kentucky
The University of Kentucky Athletics Department is at the forefront of college athletics in terms of indoor facilities. As proof, UK boasts the Nutter Field House, an $8.5 million climate-controlled structure that is used for indoor track and field and winter conditioning. The facility features an artificial turf football playing field of 108,000 square feet, surrounded by a six-lane, 290-meter track. One of the most unique features of this 132,00-square foot, multi-million dollar showplace is the electronic netting system. The system allows for different combinations of sports to practice safely and simultaneously by dividing the playing field into multiple practice areas.
Valby seemed fully fit in the two 5000m races she lost to Tuohy. And having fresher legs late in a season never hurts. Btw Valby's 3000m was later in the season, was on an oversized track and Tuohy was actually still dealing with some nagging injury issues. However that BU track is also fast.
Putting aside other factors, such as different course characteristics etc, average time per km is pointless if the athletes are running with different goals in their respective races. Tuohy was running against stronger competition, ran a steady tempo the first 4K/5K in each race she has run and then kicked the last K. She was not running with a course record in mind, just to run smart, work on her race tactics, be well positioned and win the race. The impression I had from both races is that Katelyn was not all out yet. Valby was in a race with no one that could threaten her if she over did it, so she was free to run for a fast time and apparently went for one.
As aways will depend on who is healthy in November.
Unbanked tracks smaller than 300 meters are slower than 200 meter banked tracks.
And the bouncy BU track is faster than other 200 meter banked tracks.
Tuohy, Camp and McCabe set their PBs in that race. Wayment's 15:15 that day is still her PB indoors or out. That track is faster than an outdoor track.

It is also the last 3,000 Camp has run! McCabe got hurt after that! Tuohy ran 1 3,000 after that - at NCAA! Shocking that none of these has run faster since then, I know.

Isn't there a rule on the maximum of how bouncy an indoor track is allowed to be?
Since I like using data, Tuohy and Cook beat the following by about the same margin in their races: Lee (BYU), Stearns (NAU), Hertenstein (CO) and Van Camp (AR). Tuohy beat the following by a considerably wider margin: Kemboi (UT Valley), Halladay and Frentheway (BYU), Roarck (Syracuse), all the MI ladies. I think Nuttycombe was more reflective of most runners speed, however - later in the season and every one of them ran much faster at Nuttycombe, some by over 30 seconds.

Nuttycombe went out pretty slow, even the announcers commented on that. The pack was bunched for a long time. The real race seemed to start at 4k.

It did, but it was ~15 seconds faster at 5K than OSU - and the 5K point at OSU is close to the low point on the course.

You need excuses for the rest of the field too. Bush? Halladay? Corman?
You didn't mention Wayment. Orton in the same race set her 5000 PB which she couldn't beat outdoors in rabbited races set up for fast times.
More 5000 PBs: Chmiel, Denner, Hays, Delay.
Cohen is the only one in the top 8 who has run a faster outdoor 5000 before or since.

I am sorry to disappoint you but Wayment seems to have run 1 (one) 5,000 (outdoor) since that race, and it was a bad result (15:50). She focused on the steeplechase. You are just so desperate to slight Tuohy.....
