We should not expect pro athletes to never want to participate in their sport after their performance drops off.
Fortunately pro runners can still enter and run in some of the very same races they may have run in when they were younger, faster and trying to win. That is more than ok, its a great and unique thing about running.
People like Payton Manning are never going to get to suit up for an NFL game and be on the field ever again, not even for a single play. Hasay can run all the 5ks and half marathons she wants to and can for the next 40 years or so.
Totally agree. I think this kind of performance sparks discussion because Jordan's "drop off" was so sudden and drastic.
Regardless, I am interested if she trains with her Union teammates or does most work solo. If so, is she currently able to keep up with them in any kind high intensity session (especially considering the fact that most of them are track runners as opposed to marathoners?) Does her training indicate a higher level of fitness than she has been displaying as of late in races? If not, is Pete really still coaching her through sessions for a mid 17 5k, 1:23 half, etc?
She’s done. She has not raced at a world class level in 4 years or more. She looks sickly, to be frank. Time to dust off the degree and find a job or become an influencer. That’s it.
Her degree is from Univ. of Oregon. It is worthless.
Can't decide if he is more (1) a poor man's Galen or (2) Jordan in male- form
Always nice to see a site filled with guys who can’t get a date make fun of someone’s partner.
Normally I'd agree with you but this post was pretty funny; fact is the first glance I took I thought "What the heck is she doing with Galen Rupp?!?" Put a Breathe-Rite on him and they're twins.
Does not make sense... she ran the 5k at 7AM, then the half which started at 7:30. Did she fly in from CA for a workout... makes no sense.
Honestly, I think people should stop speculating. Without context, these results are 100% meaningless. Is she in town visiting friends and treated these races as 5k warm up and then HM tempo run? Were these all out? Nobody here knows. Until she has a legit race that she is clearly going all-out for, low key races with confusing results are meaningless.
Jordan might be a female case of Ryan Hall's deep adrenal fatigue problem; well, Alberto Salazar had that too. But maybe Ryan could be best coach for her? Maybe they could rebuild her slowly — it seems like she loves running and will continue no matter what, no matter the level.
The faces she has been making on multiple videos shot for a couple of seconds during workouts this year do not seem to be the faces a person who isn't trying would make. If she's already on here reading these posts, I wonder if she ever tells any of her story here. I bet she sometimes puts an up vote or down vote, but does she ever tell any story. Where can I earn my t-shirt that says "Jordan Hasay downvoted me on her birthday"? Her time in the recent 5k was 1 second faster than the time she did in a 5k at Pismo Strawberry Stampede in 2004. Cake and steak? Cheers.

I like what she is doing. I prefer that a runner comes to events and enjoy the sport. The worst is when a pro runners pivots to trails or ultras and still try to act like they are relevant. That is the ultimate walk of shame.
Time to put this recurrent LR falsehood to rest. Yes, talent can and does go away.
If a once-talented athlete acquires bad biomechanical habits that are never identified and remedied, their talent is gone.
They will of course retain their innate cardiovascular advantages, but their running economy will decline, and they will likely experience injury after frustrating injury.
That's why it's fairly common to see athletes run staggeringly fast times at a very young age (15-17 y.o. for females, 17– 20 for males) and then spend the rest of their career in a frustrating struggle to regain that form. It's a pattern so common that it's predictable.
I'm a Jordan fan and think it's silly people world suggest she just stops. If she is enjoying it and cashing Nike checks just keep going. Throw out whatever this 5k/HM result is, and just look at the last few years. It's obvious something major has changed. Going from 2:20 to 2:37, 2:33, 2:41 shows this isn't a one time bomb. Even in her half races she hasn't been near her marathon pr pace.
My question is during some of the past training blocks her comments seemed to indicate she had really good fitness? Is she actually training at levels that would indicate <2:25 fitness or is she just being positive bc it's her job and training is indicating 2:35+ fitness? If she was getting out to 20 miles and falling apart I would look at it one way, but she is not even starting off at paces she would need.
