Hahah Ovett was immediately who I thought of, who famously ran a half in 65.38 a week before probably his most dominant performance ever at the 1977 World Cup where he obliterated the field, including the reigning Olympic Champion Walker, in 3.34.45 basically cruising the last 80m after running 12.5 seconds from 200m to 100m to go.
Yes, and the WR at the time was only 62:37, and 63:46 the year before. Ovett entered at the last minute because his flight to the 1500m he was intending to run was cancelled, jogged most of the way on borrowed trainers and sprinted away at the end with blisters on his feet.
So happy about a performance worth 29:50 for 10000m or 1:52 for 800m (around No 2000 for this year)? Ovett would just lough for beeing praised for this performance (as he did for his 2 Miles WB of 8:13.51 "...there's absolutely nothing special about this performance, believe me...")
Hey, he would be no 28 on the womens all-time list with his 65:38.
Like seriously, what is the thought process here?!? Pure trolling or do you have some kind of point I can't wrap my head around?
If you can't grasp the simple concept that training/racing long distance takes the edge off your mid-d speed, I doubt I can help you.
Even taking on 5000 seriously probably made any push for 3:25 impossible. I've seen Gjeert quoted claiming Jakob can do it, but no sign of the training focus necessary to get it done.
Bad Wigins: You are a f*****g idiot. Again and again you show your ignorance. Just trying to stir the pot? Put your head back up your a**.

Says an a hole who probably runs 70 miles a week desperately trying to break 18 minutes for 5K for the first time.
Hes had a long season so I dont blame him. Lausanne 1500 last week and DL final next week. Not sure if any distance runners ran all 3, but I dont think so.
No, it's a good question. He earlier said he was targeting Brussels for a fast 5000m time and now it appears he's not going to run any quick 5000s this year. Having the DL final in the 1500m next week is not an issue, considering he doubled at World's and Euro's. Had he run, he would have won in 12:43 or better, considering that he could easily have outkicked Krop in that race.
All those races, 2 miles to Half Marathon for S. Ovett. It didn't help Ovett a bit when he was outkicked by 3:36 or 3:37 Jurgen Straub, 1980 1500m Olympic final. Ovett's kick in 1500 races was best when Ovett was only a couple of years removed from 1976 800m final. I have a lot of respect for Ovett. A great 800m/1500m talent. That stated, Ovett's escapade into 2 mile through Half Marathon territory certainly didn't improve Ovett as an 800m/1500m man.
Ovett went on to set multiple world records at mile and 1500m after that point. He also had some legendary kicks. Remember that he went out and got totally wasted after winning gold in the 800m in Moscow, and suffered for it in the 1500m as a result.
It's in the title...Ovett in his pomp..I don't have as many of his runs as I'd like, else it would have been 50 Classic Races! In his day ,one of the greats.R...
And remember to HYDRATE! Jakob got water twice during the World Championships, but that was for a 5K so he'll really need to drink more water (maybe even some Gatorade for electrolytes!) for his big half marathon! My friend ran a Spartan race (which seems WAY too intense for my taste!) and got leg cramps on the third wall climb because she didn't hydrate.
In any case -- no matter where Jakob finishes, doing a half marathon is a big accomplishment he should really be proud of, so I hope he remembers to just HAVE FUN out there! Let me know if anyone finds out which charity he's running for!

Stating the truth makes someone an a hole?
And why are you choking someone might have trouble in breaking 18 minutes when you never could break 22 minues in the 5k?
