I don't think we can take too much off his time due to non-perfect pacing!!
I have always been impressed at how metronomic Jakob's pace judgement is. On top of that he has often enjoyed very even (thus efficient) pacing from the rabbits and also the lights dictating the pace he wants. He has had all possible benefits with pacing. His splits in Lausanne were about as close to perfect as you can get. Yes, the 800m was perhaps 0.3 - 0.5secs slow, but that's pretty insignificant in the overall picture.
Ingebrigtsen's splits:
Lausanne (3:29.05) - 55.5, 56.3, 56.0, 41.2 (55,1) - differential of 0.8 secs for first 3 laps.
His 100m splits from 300m to 1200m were - 13.8, 14.0, 13.8, 14.2, 14.3, 14.2, 14.0, 13.9, 13.9.
World Champs 22 (3:29.47) - 56.0, 56.0, 56.2, 41.2 (55.2) -
differential of 0.2 secs for first 3 laps, and that's with no light pacing!
Oslo mile (3:46.46) - 56.7, 57.4, 56.2, 56.1 (440 yd splits) -
differential of 1.2 secs for first 3 laps.
Eugene Mile 21 (3:47.24) - 56.9, 56.7, 57.6, 56.0 (440yd splits) -
differential of 0.8 secs for first 3 laps.
Olympics 21 (3:28.32) - 56,1, 55.9, 55.4, 40.9 (54.6) -
differential of 0.7 secs for first 3 laps.
Compare with previous generations' more uneven splits:
Ovett: 1500m WR (83) 3:30.77 - 54.4, 57.5, 57.2, 41.6 (55.5) -
differential of 3.1 secs for first 3 laps.
Cram: 1500m WR (85) 3:29.67 - 55.5, 58.3, 55.9, 40.0 (53.4)
differential of 2.8 secs for first 3 laps.
Aouita: 1500m WR (85) 3:29.46 - 57.2, 56.8, 55.3, 40.2 (54.5) -
differential of 1.9 secs for first 3 laps.
Maree: 1500m (85) 3:29.77 (85) - 53.4, 57.3, 56.9, 42.1 (56.2) -
differential of 3.9 secs for first 3 laps.
Coe: 1500m (86) 3:29.77 - 54.0, 57.9, 56.2, 41.6 (55.2) -
differential of 3.9 secs for first 3 laps.
The difference between the fastest and slowest laps of a 1500m in the first 3 laps has a big impact on what is possible on the last lap and thus the overall time. The best and easiest way to run 3:30.0 is with laps of 56.0, 56.0, 56.0, 42.0 (56.0). In actuual fact, as the first lap split is from a standing start, then the first lap is better to be a bit slower tham a bit faster. So something like - 56.5, 55.8, 55.8, 41.9 (55.9) - are probably the ideal splits.
