Fisher loves that inside lane and you live by the rail, you die by the rail. Krop cut in on Fisher, period, and fisher had to check his stride and got thrown off balance. It's easily seen when you slow the video down. It was at that same point in the 10K almost, with 100m to go, that he cuts back inside instead of going out, and almost gets a medal. here, Krop's drift in from the outside of lane one to the inside of lane one is the problem. Without elbowing Mo, who was just outside of his left shoulder, he has nowhere to go.

I don't blame Fisher on this one, I do blame his lack of making a move in teh 10,000. If he makes a move with 150 to go, he's in a better place and his kick was good enough to hold his position possibly. Here, he made a move to get into third, but Krop's but put paid to that.

Fisher did not step on the rail and whoever says so really can't see at all. Watch that video at 3:00 and put it in 1/4 speed.

This is, however, Fisher's fault for being in a stupid position for the second time in 2 races. He threw away two medals by marrying the inside rail.

What happens here is that he tries to pass inside of Krop because he didn't put himself in position to go wide, while the rest of the field (starting with Mo) is starting to move on the outside the way anyone with a brain would be positioned. Grant tries to go inside Krop, but Krop is ahead of him and drifts back in to protect his position, legally wrecking Grant's momentum. Grant tries to hold the position, makes a brushing contact of his right leg with Krops left leg, which pushes Grant's outside (right) foot to plant just inside the rail. Now Grant's inside (left leg is coming though in such a way as he would step on the rail or off the track so he counterrotates with his upper body to keep his feet in the track. At this point Mo is moving outside and around which leaves Grant nowhere to go so Grant has to rotate back to keep his feet on the track, which wipes out his forward momentum as the rest of the field begins passing him. He's now going out the back door and hangs on for 6th.

If he was on the other side of Krop's legs on that turn, he gets bronze at worst and quite possibly gets past Krop for the silver.

It was a great championships for Grant; we learned he is capable of double medaling which would have been amazing, but he needs to watch those tapes and get on the outside of lane 1 before 200m to go so anyone behind him has to go to lane 2 to get around. Going inside looked like it was going to be brilliant because he was behind Jakob so he could expect not to have someone slow down in front of him, but he was not fast enough to hold Krop outside. He should have took the outside instead, ran aside Krop (which he was doing) and then used the energy to try to slingshot past Krop forcing anyone behind to go to lane 2-3 to pass. By going inside, Krop expertly closed him off which ended his race right there. Mu did the same to Keeley in the 800m - dangled the inside line to her, then closed off the path once Keeley committed to it.

Time for Grant to watch tape. Maybe they need to do interval workouts where they repeatedly set up these kind of packs so he can practice positioning because he's totally capable of medalling in either or both events now.

Not sure why he needs to watch any replays - this was not rocket science, and even LR were telling him in real time what he was doing wrong. He ignored the criticisms of the 10k, and repeated the errors in the 5k, and even the inside rail said "OK even I can't keep quiet about this fiasco anymore!"

LOL I would make him do 16 x 400m and his rest interval would be watching the video of him getting pinched into the rail in slow motion.

This is unsurprising from a runner whose only hard “races” are TTs against friendly teammates giving you all the space in the world (eg the AR with teammate Mo racing). But Jerry says he prefers BTC to stay home, train and avoid going on the circuit — must be nice for runners who are somehow with no global medals.🏃🏻🏃‍♀️🏃🏼 OK, prepare to be fit but inexperienced in big boy races.

Even Rupp ran a fair number of DLs and learned how to race and medal. If literally Fisher’s first two races in a high-quality pack are the darn WC 10 and 5, how did anyone think this would turn out, other than getting rushed by the real deal over the final 200? Welcome to Hollywood.

Confirmed: not only did he fail to show up for a single Diamond League, but the ONLY 5 or 10 Fisher ran in all of 2022, other than world trials/champs, was the Sound Running 10,000 time trial set up for him.

IMO tactics cost Fisher two bronzes in these Champs. And even if he went for it and ran out of steam to say 7th in the 5k, he would still have lots of respect. Instead... he's a punchline.

Those were men's soccer levels of flailing, I think he did two full windmills with his arms.

Grant Fisher is the most exciting runner ever in American distance running history. He is only 25 and has many more chances to get on the podium:

2028 Olympics (in the USA, and he will still be only 31)

It's exciting when you win the 1500 Olympic gold (Centro). It's exciting when you win the 10k Olympic silver (Rupp). It's exciting to win the 5k Olympic silver (Chelimo). It's even exciting to win the 5k Olympic bronze (Chelimo). And this is just in the last few years.

Fisher may have potential but he's finished off the podium in every major international race in his life. Placing 5th, 9th, 4th, and 6th is not exciting compared to the actual medal performances above.

Grant needs a new coach.

Mu won her first Olympics and first WC. So have many other athletes very early in their careers.

Fisher is not remotely excited.

It is not one or the other. Instead, the Kenyan cut in to soon. Let’s see if you have any track knowledge: how many strides in front is an athlete to have before they are allowed to cut in, per the rules?
