Grant fisher proved that he’s better than mo and he won silver last year. Ik a medal is a reach but he may pull it off.

JAKOB jogged 13:04 two months ago, pretty sure he’s in sub 13 shape.

Jakob looked totally shook, as the cool kids say, after the 1500. He’s probably questioning his training every second.

Ehh. Kimeli could even out kick abdi and he didn’t even win ncaas this year. Yomif was looked way worse than Jakob in the semi. Needs SLEAZYSALAZARS SAUSE. Krop isn’t better than fisher imo.

Both Jacob (Krop) AND Jakob (Ingebrigtsen) are in sub 12:50 shape. Do you think they are slower than their PB´s?

You should rewatch the heat. Grant drifted slightly wide in the final 30m, which allowed Abdi a little room to sneak by on the inside. Kimeli was stuck behind Fisher/Barega and a gap never opened up.

Very poor race tactically from Kimeli, but I don't think its any indication as to his fitness. Which is clearly strong considering he ran 12:46 like a month ago.

Cranny, Schweizer as a,b on the 3 group is my US bias / fandom. But it’s not crazy. McColgan could be higher, but her 10 says maybe not.

The only international 5000m final Jakob has competed in was in Doha 2019 when he had just turned 19. He was no. 5 after having initiated his finish to early so he exploded 100m out.

But he is on a completely other level today. That is possibly why some people here (including this poster) consider him one of the main contenders for the gold.

Yeah the mass finish’s order had nothing to do with fitness/kick and everything to do with positioning/gaps. Kimeli was stuck. Any of them could’ve done the heat probably more definitively than Chelimo if they’d gotten a clear run and were motivated to.

No American getting on the podium for women 5000m. Hassan might win. She did good in the 10000m considering her 1 month of training. Ran out of steam last 50m but you have to think the shorter race favors her.

She is always running with great courage and is also (along with Femke Bol and McLaughlin) a feast for the eyes.

Why would this surprise you? In so many words, Grant Fisher has told the world he is a high 50.xx F.A.T. 400m or low F.A.T. 51.xx 400m man. Would you expect a 3:35.xx 1500m man to have slower 400m ability? Miruts Yifter supposedly did a 48.xx 400m TT 1972 in Munich while training. Grant Fisher needs penultimate lap to be sub 59 seconds. Your post in regard to Fisher and 400m ability has told me what I suspected. It is best for G. Fisher not to sit in the catbird sit from 4100m to 4900m. G. Fisher needs to do his best imitation of Lasse Viren/Mohammed Farah. Do not be afraid to take the lead with 900m to go G. Fisher.

I don't see Barega in this race. Sound like someone that is done since the last 2 years.

The stadium would absolutely erupt if Fisher took the lead. The crowd went crazy in Atlanta '96 when Kennedy took the lead, even if he was never really a medal threat.

I've been a Fisher doubter since Tokyo. His TTs are not impressive to me and his loss at USAs in the 10,000 furthered my view that he's not a good racer. But his 4th place in the last week's 10,000 changed my mind. He closed hard and put himself in with a chance to medal. I now think he's moved up a level and he's a contender.

His problem in the 5,000 is that it's so much more competitive than Tokyo. Ahmed got a silver in a pretty weak field because the Ethiopians weren't doubling. The three most of likely medallists are Cheptegei, Ingebrigtsen, and Barega. Fisher is in that second group with Krop, Kimeli, and Kejelcha. It wouldn't surprise me if any of those guys won medals. The rest should be also-rans though both Chelimo and Edris are wildcards

Fisher was probably in a full training block during 10k trials and tempo ran that. Do you really think Jerry Schumacher (2nd greatest coach of all time) didn’t intentionally make that 10000m slow. Fisher is peaking perfectly, he just beat the Olympic champ.
