Hands down 200m. It’s not speed. It’s not endurance. I don’t know what it is but I hate it. The only thing I hate more is the 4x200 at the junior high and HS level.
Race Walking. WTH? Who came up with that BS and for 20K. Why?
10K on the track. Boring as hell. When that is on or at a track meet, make a run to the concessions.
Triple Jump. Why? What is natural about taking a hop, step and jump?
High Jump. When does anybody ever in real life jump backwards and land on their back?
Get rid of these nonsense events. Might as well add American Ninja Warrior obstacle courses to track & field. Its better than the stepplechase. Makes more sense than some of the events we already have.

The high jump is cool because everyone wants to know you has the biggest vertical. You could disallow the Flop and make everyone scissor it. That totally changes the event.
I remember someone saying that if they allowed you to take off from two feet people might jump higher, like gymnastics somersaulting or flipping. I'm not so sure though.

This would help, as would making all other field events rule-less. Spinning javelin, two-handed shot, two-foot HJ take-offs. The problem here is that T&F is mired in tradition. EVERY other sport has evolved.

how long have you been playing this track game?
200m is prob the most pure running event in terms of indicating one's raw speed/talent
i certainly don't expect a distance-heavy forum to understand this right off the bat or maybe ever
I wonder how many of the people commenting here have been to a professional track meet. I’m someone who once thought watching field events on television was boring, but in person it’s a very different experience. They’re actually exciting! I was at Hayward Field yesterday (my first ever international track meet) and I was surprised by how much I got into the high jump and discus. The crowd was into it, too. A lot of fun.
anything under 1500m. I hate watching sprinters do that thing where they put their hands on their hips and sway from side to side for 10 minutes before a 20 second race.

Lol “It’s not speed.” 19.19 “is not speed”. Right.
I just can't into the Steeplechase. It's too goofy and I have no reference point for what an impressive time is.
Same with 10k, just can't get into it.
Pretty much every other event I can get excited about under the right conditions.
hep/dec feel too much like crossfit to me
hammer and javelin
wait a sec...basically the events not included at the high school level in the US?
Too me the problem with the multis is how it's scored. It's bizarre.
It seems like there should be a way to score it where place vs the competition should count X and you need to win or place high in Y number of events to win the whole thing.

LoL troll. 200m is arguably more exciting than the 100m. Michael Johnson, Bolt, Blake, Felix, Schippers, Thomas, SAFH, ETH, Steiner are some of my favorites to watch.
We're the fans and many here don't want to watch many events. Why would we expect non trackies to care?
A fan knows what's is Good and what is Bad about their team. A track fan knows what is good and what is bad in the sport.
You want to cut out quite a few events, a few others want to cut out other events. Don't cut out any events. During the 10,000 you can go to the bathroom or get food and during the 100 heets someone else can go to the bathroom and grab some food.
Regarding field events, I was in Germany for the world champs a while back and the throws were as popular as any running event.
