The Ethiopians know there's been races where El B has been outran or didn't have a kick sufficient to win, but they saw the race in Rabat, got scared, and banked on kick. I can't blame them, it's not a terrible option, but making it fast wasn't a terrible option either.

The Rabat DL race was one of the best races of the year. Big guns battling it out with a crowd that went totally crazy, like a European ultra's style soccer match.
The steeple is one of the few distance races where the big names race eachother through the season. El Bakali, Girma, Kipruto, even Bor as he's not Nike sponsored so in different gear, make it a real treat to watch.

I think it is because Moroccan ("Marrow-Cans") are notorious for being dopers.
Every Moroccan runner from Said Aouita to Khalid Skah to Hicham El Guerrouj etc has been juiced to the max.
So I think it is because of that tainted reputation that this Steeple guy is not getting the 'love'.
But then again Africans in general don't get much love on LetsRun.
