So....who else the the U.S. have left that can be competitive? I don't think he's done. Look how well Carlos Lopes did at approximately the same age. I do think he could be a factor if he can peak properly for the Olympics.

Why wouldn't he run one more Olympics? Because he's not willing to change allegiance and he ain't making team USA. Would have made it today, but.....
2 more years is a lot at this point in career and age. 2 years is also a fair amount of time for some of US's younger runners.

Maybe that's a good time with his back injury but I don't think he'll be motivated to keep on competing if the best he can do is 19th
And even if he gets back to 206 shape I just don't think that cuts it anymore on the big stage. He just ran a 206 at Chicago and that got him what 5th place?

Retire and do what? Some made-up job at Nike? What is he trained for? Was he graduated with a useful skill?

I guess Shalane doesn’t have a “cloud hanging around” from Schumacher? It is un-freaking-believable how delusional you people are. Shalane is a hypocrite in the greatest sense of the word.
Also is Des interesting? I've heard she's a good person but not the most exciting on the broadcast booth. Or maybe I have her mixed up with Kara.
I think Rupp is becoming more likeable in his old age. People hated him because he was being given every advantage - prototype shoes, all the Nike resources, equipment unavailable to anyone else - so it was hard to cheer for him when so many other athletes had more relatable struggles.
Now he’s in his twilight, fighting injury, with time ticking, he’s the underdog in races and it’s easier to cheer for him to pull out one more miracle race.
