612 JULY, MONACO: The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has today provisionally suspended Nijel Amos of Botswana with immediate effect after a sample collected from the 800m runner tested positive for Metabolites of GW1516, a substance that is prohibited under the 2022 WADA Prohibited List as a metabolic modulator. Substances in this category modify how the body metabolizes fat and GW1516 was originally synthesized and evaluated for the treatment of obesity, diabetes and other disorders caused by metabolic problems. GW1516 is not an approved substance for human use and WADA has advised of its health risks for athletes. GW1516 is a non-Specified Substance on the 2022 WADA Prohibited list and a provisional suspension is mandatory following an adverse analytical finding for such substance under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.
The AIU collected the sample from Mr Amos during an out-of-competition test on the 4 June 2022. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratory that analysed the sample notified the AIU of the adverse analytical finding today, 12 July 2022.
The athlete was notified of the adverse analytical finding and his mandatory provisional suspension this afternoon in Eugene. He was scheduled to participate in the 800m heats on 20 July.
The AIU will make no further comment on the matter at this time.
So do you plan on campaigning for his innocence and defense fund like with Shelby or is it a case by case thing?
Black page. Amos career becomes pretty sad now, when his peak turned out to be that amazing olympic silver and WJR at 18. Medal drought after that (bar Commonwealth where he did beat Rudisha) and in the dying lights of his career, trying for redemption, he goes out like this.
That sucks :( puts a bad light on the amazing race he had in 2012 and his 1:41 7 years later in 2019. I see some people saying he probably wasn't doping until recently because he was falling off. What are the chances that's true vs him having doped for years?

He got caught by a test, didn't he? And he joined OTC relatively late in his career. No way he could know about this PED by himself, OTC has to be involved somehow.
GW1516 is the most infamous of modern 'research chemicals'. You can easily order it online, and thousands or even millions of amateur body builders, and no doubt countless professional sports people, do. The companies developing it stopped when it was discovered that it caused a proliferation of cancerous tumors in mice. Despite this, you will get shills working for the shady online drugs companies that sell it, posting in forums claiming that you would have to overdose on it to develop cancer (including in this forum in the past).

He would seriously have to have no concept of time, no knowlege of how to use the internet etc etc. There are probably 8 year olds who know about this and order it online.
We can't be sure Nijel was "doping". The drug used isn't even called "dope". And being on the WADA banned list means it only has the "potential" to enhance performance. It's probably just another "placebo".
We can't even be sure that Nijel took the drug, as it was found in a specimen jar in a WADA lab. How did it get there?
As the offence is one of "strict liability", that must mean Nijel is innocent, as the "broken" WADA system does not have to prove intent and there's no proof Nijel meant to take the drug that turned up in a jar with his name on it.
We need to hear from Travis Tygart. He's good at knowing who's innocent.

Poor Adam Kszczot who missed out on the London 2012 final and a likely lifetime pb because of this cheat, and Duane Solomon a medal and Nick Symmonds 4th place.
Given Amos has missed doping tests and was lucky not to receive a suspension, further evidence that we are right to assume on the balance of probabilities that those suspended for missing 3 tests were doping.
Also, perhaps I'm being naieve, but I think it's a good sign when another obvious doper like Amos gets caught. It suggests that doping is not as widespread as many here believe among the elite. As stated above, the drug in question can be ordered online from anywhere in the world, and yet it's another obvious doper who gets busted for it.

Only Armstrong believes anyone faster than 1:46 is a doper.

And all are Kenyans.
Yes, unfortunately only Africans are likely financially desperate enough to take a drug that causes a rapid proliferation of cancerous tumors in mice. But that wouldn't concern you would it? When Amos is lying in agony in a hospital bed in 10 years with multiple cancers ravaging his body, you'll still be beating to his 2012 run and telling yourself it was worth it and that I'm a racist.
Disappointing. Amos has been in the game for a decade and I'm sure he's been tested for everything under the sun. I'm guessing this case is similar to Kiprop's where a fading star desperately turns to chemicals to try and stay competitive. Kiprop didn't win a single race the year he got popped and we can all agree Amos was not in conversation for a medal for the first time in his career.
Sad end.
So you don't think this proven doper was doping back when he was dodging tests?

Why? It's not a rare or difficult to aquire PED. Just google "list of SARMs" and nearly every article mentions it.
