Skyridge UT is a really strong program and only had 4 freshmen last CC season. 3 of them didn’t break 22. The other one ran a 16:29 last season at RunningLane and will probably make their top 7 this year.
Only one boy didn’t break 4:50. A 5:01 freshman. Shows how dedicated everyone is to the program. Insane

Here’s how many they had in the years since Nico Young was a freshman:
2017 - 5 (not including Nico as he was injured)
2018 - 8
2019 - 7
2020 - n/a
2021 - 5
2022 - 2
Hopefully 2022 will end up being an outlier in this regard.
As I was saying, it looked pretty suspect. Any coach that was planning on sticking around would have leveraged the team's attention and success and filled the coffers with freshman.

West Ranch is in a similar situation. They went to NXN in 2018 but only 2 freshman boys who ran CC in 2021. 3 freshman boys ran track in 2022 and none of them broke 5:20.
They both have at least 3 talented freshmen coming in though.
lol. there is not a coach in the world that could get some of the runners i was privileged to coach under 5:00. not within one season, anyway.
Brosnan is a fantastic coach, but this just shows a program that is not all inclusive. And that's fine I guess. Everybody has a different opinion on that type of thing.

Looks like they have 4 in c/o 2025 this year in XC. They also have a guy who won the 10th grade race but doesn’t do track (does other sports), and yet he wants to make their varsity for xc
From spring 2019 on, there’s been hardly any sophomore girls that didn’t break 6 minutes. And hardly any sophomore boys that didn’t break 5 minutes.
Have you looked at the percentage of both girls and boys that continue after their 9th grade year? That would be interesting.
Would also like to know what percentage of kids that stick with the program continue to run in college and also after college as adults.
Some believe you only have 5 good years where you can focus on running and give your best. Its a choice, but I question spending 4 of those 5 years focusing on running while in high school just to be a middle of the pack runner on your own team. Likely not being top 7 and getting to compete in the larger meets. Maybe pushing far too hard in too many workouts, even on the easy days, just trying to keep up.
Could be like making a big commitment to school work, trying your very hardest, doing extra studying, but only getting a C on the tests and as a final grade.
Not knocking the program, talent or coaching. Just wondering if it all burns people out or develops a lifelong love of running.

Millard West boys (finished 2nd at state 3 years in a row and took second at Heartland) only had 2 freshman in CC too. One ran over 23 minutes and the other ran over 37 minutes in the 5K. This team had 3 seniors, 2 sophs and 2 seniors in their top 7.
Class of 2025 at Millard West is starting to get some talent on the boys side Jones - 4:56 1600 Hansen - 5:08 1600 Johnson - 2:02 800
There were also 4 class of 2025 boys instead of 2 at Millard West on the XC team last year. So this class is growing on the team
Have you looked at the percentage of both girls and boys that continue after their 9th grade year? That would be interesting.
Percentages of freshmen that keep running after freshman year.This one is for XC only.
Class of 2020: Boys - 80%. One of these who quit CC did nothing but track in 2018 after freshman CC. Girls - 71.4%
Class of 2021: Boys - 64%. Girls - 50%. There were only 2 girls. One went to run for all 4 years, and the other quit after the XC season.
Class of 2022: Boys - 67% (one of the 3 that quit XC after the first year did Pole vault in track through Sr year) Girls - 50% continued XC after 9th grade. There were 4 freshman girls. Only 2 girls ran XC for all 4 years. The other 2 only did track after 9th grade.
Class of 2023: Boys: 37.5% Girls: 67%. The rest of them only did track.
Class of 2024: Boys: 100% Girls: 100%
A lot of people joined NP XC to get PE credits. Once they got all those credits they needed, they quit
