btw...if Veracity happens to mean truth..I'd love to hear Cartier's side, which, mind you, won't stop South Jersey running fans from telling the account I just told..like the story that DiJoseph was shot by the Michigan Militia at the 2.5 mile mark at the Kinney meet...that happened.

I think Essex Catholic may still hold the NR in the four mile relay.Essex Catholic and Power Memorial[Centrowitz],twoof the top track schools of the 60's early seventies cease to exist.
Penn Relays Mile Champ, John Richardson. Britany Sedberry, 2x FL finalist and Brianna J, 16:43 5k in 7th grade.
Two things:
Mike Elder NEVER ran 4:07 in HS
And Vince Cartier, tried to "find" Butynes at two miles..it was the other way around, Cartier had no comp at the mile and moved up to 2M, but was forced back down to the mile as he had No valid Q'er , it was on that day that he ran legendary 4:06.6 at Princeton.

We have some rising stars in HS right now
Craig Foryes ran the second best time at Holmdel this fall. At least I think he did, I don't live in NJ anymore, so I'm not sure if the rumor was true.
Distance guy-Tom Fleming
Sprint guy-John Quigley (delasalle'38 HS) for years he held the flat floor 1/4 record at 168 ST and I believe he was the starter in the race that broke his record ,in the 47/48 range I think(sorry I'm light on details)and I'm pretty sure a HS 4x4 he ran on held the record untill the '60s. Twice in 1938(26 feb&12 march) De La Salle Institute ran 3:20.1 in MSG setting and equaling the HS record& the MSG record(Quigley, Collado, Trucknott, Rogers)
John started many area meets and a lot at 168ST.

Don't include HS kids in this PLEASE, especially ones that didn't make it to Foot Locker Nationals.
Recent distance runners NJ has produced??? How about Ed Moran? 13:25 his senior year at W&M...from NJ, Notre Dame HS. CBA's Eric Savoth had a great 2004, ran in trials 5000m, PR'd 13:33, etc.
On the girls side, Lindsay Gallo, Erin Donohue, others like Liz Wort running pretty well at Duke, the Trotter Sisters, etc.

Gerry Vanasse is not really a Jersey guy, never lived in NJ when running competitively...pretty sure he was in CT or Boston. Grew up in CT and went to UConn. He lives here now and has for years, but not when running. Currently the AD at The Pingry School...alma mater of The Brothers Lear.
