Should Devon Allen quit the NFL and purse Paris 2024 fulltime?

yup-you can be real fast but you have to run reliable routes and have good hands; "Skeets" Nehemiah lasted only a few years in the NFL with the 49'ers and was out of the league by the mid '80s replaced by a guy called Rice; Willie Gault was part of the '84 gold winning 4x100 relay team but he had a serviceable career with the Bears since he was not only fast but reliable!

Man, it's a tough call. Can't blame him for wanting to play in the NFL, it seems like he genuinely loves football and how many people would be psyched to play for the Eagles if they had the chance? Also probably pays a lot more per year than track does.

That said, the NFL is incredibly risky even if it pays more in the short term. The average retirement age is 27 and the average career length is only 3.5 years, and that's including quarterbacks and kickers. Allen is 27 now and in his track prime. I'm biased, but I think track would be more conducive to a long and healthy life. Plus with a 12.84 next to your name you can probably ask for better appearance fees. In any case, I hope he stays uninjured and wish him success.

Whatever he chooses. This year is his only chance to get that WR. He won't ever be in this kind of shape again judging by recent high-hurdling greats like Merritt, Oliver, Liu, Robles, McLeod and Holloway.

As an Eagles fan I hope he makes the team but that is far from guaranteed despite the NBC broadcast on Sunday talking like he’s locked in as a starter. If he gets cut in training camp will he bounce around trying out for various teams or go back to track?

Obviously he is a great hurdler with WR and OG potential. Not sure how good he is at football because I haven't been following that. Financial rewards are probably greater in the NFL IF he's good to great player and can keep from getting injured. Potential for career-ending injury is also astronomically higher in NFL. Long-term financial, health, and "prestige" rewards would seem higher in track than in NFL.

No. Not if he wants to ensure his financial future. He will not make the same amount of money in T&F that he will make playing American Football. Of course he may pay it out later in medical bills for concussion related issues, but that's the trade off he will have to take into account.
