Takes time to run fast 800s.. these guys are peaking until Worlds.
1:43.69 is the WL, dude from Texas Tech. He’s injured atm, Emmanuel is right there in low 1:44. 800m is actually pretty deep right now. We’ll definitely see a 1:42 by the end of the year. Hopefully faster!
You really struggle with this. Mo Farah is facing MEN, where the pool is historically and currently still much deeper. It is MUCH easier to have fantastic range as a doping female than a doping male. This shouldn’t be that difficult for you oh wise man.
Wow, so much anger and some misogyny too. Relax…..

There is no misogyny. Please point out the misogyny.
Seb Coe was a 1:41 guy more than 40 years ago wearing crappy spikes and on inferior tracks. 'Just saying.
Yeah, but Coe never broke 14 minutes in the 5000.
True, but the greatest true milers of all time have been able to approach or set world records in both the 8 and the 15 while also winning gold medals.
The reason Mo Farah will never be remembered as one of the greatest 5/10 guys is because he never so much as approached a world record in any of the distances he competed in.
The great ones can do it all. Ingebritsen may be one of those. We'll see, but it clearly will be in contrast to the greatest milers of all time.
The thing is, Jacob has an impressive collection of times, but he isn't that fast for a 1500 runner. In other words he's vulnerable in a slow, tactical race. In a championship race with no pacer Jacob has to lead and keep the pace fast to maximize his chances, but that means everyone else can just sit on him and use him as a pacer.
Doesn’t seem to be too much of an issue for him so far…

I suppose Hicham doesn’t qualify as a “true miler.”

3:47 / 1:41 / 2xOG in the 1980s >> 3:49 / 1:47 / 1xOG in the 2020s

You do realize you are comparing an all time great’s entire career against a 21 year old’s career? Strange…

Three things take away from S. Coe in 1500m: 1) I wish S. Coe would have raced 1500m at 1979 World Cup Athletics but Thomas Wessinghage represented western Europe well; 2) It would have been good to see S. Coe race 1500m, 1983 W.C.-Athletics; 3) Besides Ovett, 1500m field was weak, 1980 Olympics.
That stated, S. Coe could win a 1500m race split 2:04.xx at 800m and S. Coe could win a 1500m race split 1:52.xx at 800m. J.I. is a one trick pony. If 800m is not split faster than 1:56.xx, in a strong field, J.I. cannot win.

You still haven’t responded to how WRONG your above post was. Embarrassingly so.
And Jakob will be a 12:45 5000m runner by the end of this summer, so ca. 15s faster than Moorcroft in 5000m. Endurance always comes at the cost of the speed and vice versa. Therefore it's absolutely plausible, that he simply is not faster than Moorcraft in 800m.
I would not be surprised if Cheptegai would struggle to break 1:50.
How quickly can an athlete transition from max endurance to max speed for their potential? Is this a 3-6 month process, or years in the making, or at some point irreversible? I’m not sure if Jakob is the best example, but how long would it take him to break 1:45? If he manages it, then it would be impossible for him to contemporaneously break 13? How on earth does Hassan manage to run low 3:50s and 29 minutes in the same season? Could she have also run 1:57?
Hassan has already run 1:56 when her 1500m pr was 3:56. In 2019 she ran 3:51 solo so she was at least able to run 1:56 or even 1:55 high in a perfect race, that’s totally crazy
This result wasn't surprising to me. Jakob is the consummate 1500/5000 runner, much like El G. I laughed when I saw predictions on the other thread based off of what Centro used to run in the 800. That's totally irrelevant.
Jakob could probably go well under 13 in the 5000 right now.

Crazy indeed. 1:56 and 29:07.
Based on the scoring tables this is 1:43x and 26:15 for the men. Anybody ready to do that? C’mon, it’s “easier” for women, but that much easier? Did you see Mu run the mile? Can you imagine Gidey running an 800? She’s has the greatest range of any runner who’s ever competed, man or woman, certainly far greater than Jakob, and also El G, Bekele, Lagat, whoever….
