J. Ingebrigtsen runs 800m tomorrow. What should we expect?

You are comparing to a guy who is perhaps one in a generation talent (THOUGHTLEADER: An A+ talent comparable to the Alltime Greats).

How did you think Colin Sahlman did towards Jakob in the Bowerman Mile?

Are you aware that Jakob ran faster in the mile at 16 than Colin did at 18?

I think many people are unaware that Jakob was a rather good 800m runner in his teens:

As I have stated before in other threads:

If Centro and Engels were able to run 1:44 Jakob will at least be able to do the same. Possible not tonight but one day where he finds the time to join a 800m race under good conditions.

The guy is a 3:28 1500m man; #1 miler in the world; in good form.

In sports, you have to lace 'em up and find out in the arena. If J.I. grew up differently and trained differently ... . Smart money says J.I. never surpasses the 800m personals bests of either Matt C. or Engels.

Pro mens 800 has been very lackluster the past 2 years. The number of races won in 1:45 mid with most coming in at 1:46s is almost what I expect now. I want to see faster times but they haven’t been happening. I doubt Jakob will drop down in distance and take the pace himself. Can he run faster that the PRs of other 1500m runners people listed in this thread? Ya probably if you give him an ideal Monaco style race, but that’s not what I’m expecting

Never, sub 1:46 would be a huge success.

Foreman was able to knock FRAZIER down 6 times until the fight was stopped. So George FOREMAN's fans assumed that Foreman would knock out Ali. Just to correct the record. But there is no hand to hand combat (generally) in running so the analogy really doesn't work.

Weather in Bergen is currently partially sunny, 18C (64F) with 2m/s of wind. No rain.

This is the startlist. The Pb of the people are low. Not really top runner. So Jakob will not have a fast race. Its just a test race near his hometown in cold weather. When he breaks 1:46 he will consider it a success. Bernat Lagat was never able to do so.

Yeah I agree. This race is probably won in 1:45ish, maybe even 1:46. Someone said earlier the requested pace is 51. That's in line with 1:45 or so. The last DL meet went out in 51 & they ran 1:45. 50-high or 51-low at the front for the pacer might mean 51-52 for a lot of the field. Winner comes back in 52-53.

Like him racing the 800 but who cares about losing to legit 800 guys if you get towed to a decent time. I think we see 1:46ish but who knows. Kid is a beast.

If Jakob can beat Van Diepen it would be very impressive.

Actually, it has nothing at all to do with running or any other sport other than boxing. Is there a “letsbox”forum for where the poster can bring up his never heard before comment that styles make fights.

Melli (Kenya) ran that 1:43.81 in 2012, Rieti. He’s 28 now and since 2018 he’s been running in the 1:45.00 low to high range. He (Jacob), will need a pacemaker to go through in around 51 or 52. If the pacemaker could keep going to 600 m that would be great. Don’t underestimate Jacob, and I see anywhere from 1:44.50-1:45.90 in this race for him.
