why should i be impressed by a 2:07 'professional', who first off, can't choose the proper gear for the conditions and second, got stomped by a bunch of guys that probably can't run under 2:20?
Except the woman winner pb for marathon is just over 2 20 and she was like 35th overall?
So I'm supposed to be impressed a 2:07 marathoner beat a female that has a 2:20 PR or are you implying these men can run significantly faster than 2:20 (they can't)?
look at it this way... if Rupp, Hall, Ritz etc showed up near their prime to this event and got beat by 12 minutes, no one would be in here saying how impressive of a result it was.
You could say Kilian is a one trick pony. Needs long mountain races with lots of vert. On a flatter, runnable course like WS, Walms is better. That's the thing though. Walms trained in Flagstaff - ideal for WS. Hazen's also hella fast at WS. But both suck at UTMB.
Kilian is no one trick pony. He regularly posts videos of his training: 60k warmup, then vertical K in 2:20 then 5x5000 in 13:20 each with no rest. All timed with an hourglass and measured with a twig.

Tapering, Race strategy and fueling are something individual and that depends on the needs and characteristics of every runner. This post is not to say what is best to do, because that will be very different for every athlete...
Interesting read about Tapering, Race strategy and fueling. For example:
Fueling: breakfast, 1/2 slice of bread with chocolate cream and water 3h before the start. 40gr CHO (Maurten) 2h before start. Warm up drinking 0,5L of water. During the race at 30' a CAF Maurten gel (I never drinkm coffee so 1 CAF gel is enought for me for the day! and then 1 GEL Maurten every 30'. I was drinking a 250cl water with Maurten MIX 160 until Santi Spiritu (km 20) another until Urbia (30) and another until the end. So that gives around 60gr/CHO/h during the race and a total of 750cl of water during the race.
He also has quite a large honk for his size so he can get more air in with each breath. That with his huge engine and small size is a near perfect combo.

Roadies don't really care to understand the difference in between being the best marathoners and best mountain trail runners. To them if you gave Kenyans enough money they'd dominate mountain trail running too or just road ultras like comrades. But whenever there's a sub 2:10 Kenyan marathoner that don't preform like they think they should or drops out they'll make up any excuse under the sun.

First there is the %Vo2max which he can use over that 10k. The aerobic power. Seems to be not very well developed. Can be well trained, he seems to be not specialiced for that.
Second there is running economy. Maybe not the best. Also running flat on asphalt is different to trail running were you have slopes.
The key learning here is that a 10k is not a trail race, and to be really good at a certain race you need to be specialized.

Results are available online. The last one is a 13.56 5k and a junior european champion in xc. Zerei beat Jakob Ingebrigtsens 10k NR with 27:39 in Valencia. Filip even you might now who is? Nordås is a 3.36 and a 28.04 Olympian. I could go on and on.

I don't care what lame excuses you kilianfanboyz come up with; a world class distance runner with a VO2 max of 88 running all out doesn't get 18th place in a local 10k, get beaten beaten by children and almost chicked, and struggle to squeak under 30min. He runs repeat 5ks in 13:20 for heaven's sake. A 30min 10k is a warmup for someone with his claimed creds and training, not a desperate lunge. The asphalt slows him down in a race, but not when he is cranking out those world class training repeats? The flat course slows him down, and so does the sea level oxygen? He's efficient enough to bust sub 30 and sub 14 in training, but not efficient enough to do it in a race?

Now that I exposed your lie about "local club runners", lets expose your lie about "children". A 16-17 year old european xc juniors silver medalist is not a child. Weldu Negash Gebretsadik (your local club runner who is a world championship runner) ran a 29:xx in the same meet as Kilian, but is a 2:09 maratoner. Is he a fraud as well, or can it be that your shape varies a bit? You cannot PR every race, and not any kind of race.
The "local meet" full of "local club runners" and "children" and "chicks" was is not local at all, but the most important 10k for the elite and sub elite in norway with olympic runners such as the Ingebrigtsen, Narve Gilje Nordås (or local club runners as you call it), several world championship runners, several european championship runners and record holders. The children was a 16/17 year old european jr xc medalist and the female that you claim almost "chicked" him is multiple times european medalist, european xc champ and 2x olympian Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal.
Your need to twist and lie about the events tells us everything about how little weight we should put to your claims, and says alot about the person sitting behind the keyboard. Sad.
And VO2max is kinda bullsh*t. Measurement is not very accurate, and you also have to have the right musculature among other things to be world class. I'm sure Lance Armstrong had a high VO2Max but he still could barely break 3 hours in the marathon.
